Kings Canyon

Postcard aerial view to give you an overview of Kings Canyon. Our walking tour started, roughly speaking, on the upper right corner of the picture, went to the lower left, and then back again (making a circle).

On the edge... some people already lost their lives because they underestimated the danger - it is safer to lie down at the edge to have a look down. The picture taken while standing close to the edge may be your last one if the wind starts to blow in the wrong direction. Really steep!

Another view of the edge of Kings Canyon. To give you an idea of where we are at the moment: The spot would be a little up from the centre of the aerial overview picture.

Let us go down to the area called Garden Eden at Kings Canyon.

Normally, the Garden Eden is full of waterholes and even a small river is running through, so that subtropical plants can survive here. Unfortunately, it had not rained for a long time so that it was unusually dry even out here, and there was not much water in the waterholes.

Strange birds living out here...

The place where we were before, seen from the other side of the canyon.

Thank God, the strenous walk up and down and up and down again is over... on the picture you can see the last part of the walk that we just came down. Mind your step, it is quite steep! Only 10 am but hot like hell. We needed 2-3 litres of water each in the 2-3 hours that we spent exploring the canyon. Incredible that there are still people starting the walking tour now! Crazy.
