Chimera – Where myth meets reality…

 

Originally a project by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), SAE DCE organised a national level vehicle design contest for the young engineers to showcase their ingenuity.  We received overwhelming response from colleges all over the country and the event was a huge success.

The Problem: To design a Car for Paraplegic people.

The problem was as follows:

·        To design the exterior of the vehicle with drawings showing any three views of the vehicle with reasonable theoretical explanation.

·        To design the interiors of the vehicle with drawings showing clearly the controls and the dashboard of the vehicle along with theoretical description.

·        To design the gear lever.

·        To design the clutch lever.

·        To design the electrical system.

·        To design the steering wheel.

·        To prepare a financial estimate of the complete vehicle.

The car design was to be accompanied by drawings, showing clearly how the lever system is linked to the control panel.

 

The maximum cost of the vehicle was not to cross Rs. 3 Lakhs.
