Designing a Custom Gown

The first step in designing a custom gown is to understand how the parts of the gown are constructed. The following diagram identifies the six basic parts of the gown.

1. Yoke

2. Bodice

3. Sleeves

4. Skirt

5. Banding

6. Hem


The second step is to select the fabric and lace for the gown. Standard fabrics are :

Select the lace from the Lace Style Sheet.

The third step is to select the basic styles and accents for each of the 6 parts.

Yoke Styles

The yoke is available in a round, pointed or square pattern with a variety of accents. Available accents include Pin Tucks, Lace Insertions, Lace Beading with ribbon and Lace Ruffle edging.

Select the yoke style from the Yoke Style Sheets.

Bodice Styles

The bodice is the framework that connects the yoke, sleeves and skirt. The bodice can extend below the yoke and be embellished with a puffing band, Lace beading with ribbon or a button-on fabric belt, but it is usually completely covered by the yoke.

Select the bodice style from the Bodice Style Sheet.

Sleeve Styles

The sleeves are available in short or long sleeves with a variety of edgings including a Plain Cuff, Lace Cuff, Lace Ruffle, Fabric Ruffle or a Fabric Ruffle with lace edging.

Select the sleeve style from the Sleeve Style Sheet.

Skirt Styles

The skirt is a simple gathered section with embellishments added with banding. Special orders can be accommodated for panel inserts, lace shaping and/or hand embroidery.

Banding Styles

The banding can include rows of pin tucks, puffing, lace insertions and lace beading with or without ribbons.

Select the banding style from the Banding Style Sheet.
Hem Styles

The hem can be finished with a variety of edgings including a Plain Hem, Lace Hem, Lace Ruffle, Fabric Ruffle or Fabric Ruffle with lace edging.

Select the hem style from the Hem Style Sheet.

Submitting Your Design
