SIGHTSEEING OF DRESDEN
First of all I, want to give some general facts about Dresden. Dresden has a population size of about 471,000 inhabitants on a area of 225.75 square kilometers.
Now, let's have a little walk through Dresden and visit some of its beautiful buildings.
The "Zwinger"
"Zwinger" means "outer ward". That building is described as the nicest and most famous building in Dresden. The "Zwinger" was built from 1710 till 1728 by the architect Poeppelmann in cooperation with the sculptor Permoser. It is one of the nicest Late Baroque architecture.
The Semper Opera House (Semperoper)
The Semper Opera House was built by Gottfried and Manfred Semper. It is High Renaissance.
The Bruehl Terrace
The Bruehl Terrace is called the "Balcony of Europe", because it is a famous place above the old city wall along the river Elbe. From there, you have a beautiful view to the Semper Opera House, the Court Chapel, the Sekundogenitur and over the river Elbe.
The Castle of Dresden
The Castle of Dresden was the recidence of the kings of Saxony, especcially of August 1th (August "the Strong"). There are still reconstructions to do to rebuild the castle as the castle it was before the destruction in february 1945.
The Golden Rider
The Golden Rider is August "the Strong" representing his power.
The Elbe with "Blue Wonder" bridge
The "Blue Wonder" bridge was the first bridge without any piers. That's the reason why the people called it a wonder. It is one of the connections between "Altendresden", the older Dresden, and the younger part of Dresden.
These are some sights of Dresden. But still work has to be done to rebuild the Dresden which was known as the "Florence-on-the-Elbe".That's a fanciful synonym of Dresden since the "Augustan Ages".
