MSM-10 Zock

Synopsis:  In the Asian releases the Acguy and Zock come together in one package. When it came time for release in the U.S. the Zock and Acguy are sold separate leaving this little guy to usually serve as a peg-warmer while the Acguy and GM heads fly of the shelves. I suppose Bandai in Asia knew that the Zock would slump in sales and counted on the Acguy's fan base to help it out in the form of the asian two pack

In the Mobile Suit Gundam series this guy had its claim to fame by wrecking havoc in Jaburoand going down by a single Beam rifle shot. Like other Zeon suits Zock has a rather unusual design tilting towards ugly.

The Figure: The head is pretty much fused with the rest of the body like the overall design. The arms are limited pretty bad at the shoulder joint because of some shoulder armor fused with the rest of the body. Another problem lies in the shoulder joint can pop off during arm movement however this flaw is not as bad as this similar problem observed in the Dom and RX-78-2 Ver 1.0. The elbow joint features great range of movement, which can allow for some decent posing when the shoulder is not in the mood to pop off.

The short and stubby legs of the Zock are surprisingly more articulate then what this thick figure would lead you to believe. True there are no knee joints to speak of however the feet are relatively free for movement. The upper leg is a little hampered by the hip armor but at first sight I had wondered whether there would be any movement to speak of.

The torso features two distinct areas to pivot on the hip. Although the rate horizontal turn is very little, the upper pivoting point allows tilt either way, which is a unique quality so far shared only with the RX-78-2 Gundam ver 2.0. The Zock also has the unusual distinction of being nearly identical front and back. The only distinctions come in the front is the mono eye and a red line running along the nose at the front. I would also include the "Danger" markings on the feet however these can easily be rotated to the backside. If you want, showing the backside of the Zock can give the appearance of a powered down Zock.

The Accessories: Like the Gogg before it the Zock has no Accessories other then itself.

Play Value: Gimmicks is not the Zock's greatest strong point however to tell the truth with this figure's low center of gravity the goofy poses you can do with this guy are plentiful.

Display Value: The Zock is like other Zeon Marine types, unique to sometimes ugly and that is bound to attract attention however most other Marine mobile suits are more threatening then the Less-then-threatening-looking Zock. Zock's retro look may receive some attention since its appearance looks more retro scifi then any other UC suit I can presently think of.

Dollar Value: This would depend on a few things. For the collector looking to complete his set of UC mobile suits of the OYW then get it. If you are a fan of the Zeon Marine mobile suits then get it. If you are a zock fan then get it. If you are into gimmicks then this may not be the figure for you.

Conclusion: Better then expected but the Zock's original design and lack of movable claws keep this from having much success.

SCORE: 5 out of 10 Zaku Heads

although it had some pleasant surprises the Zock's animated design is at fault.
