YMS-14S Char's Gelgoog and MS-14 Anavel Gato's Gelgoog(U.S. Release) Synopsis: This is probably the ME262 of the One Year War Zeon's best mobile suit that was "Too little too late." The first time you see the Gelgoog was in the form of Char's YMS-14 Gelgoog and later the mass-produced Gelgoogs defending A Ba Quo. Anavel Gato's Gelgoog was among the Gelgoogs defending A Ba Quo and while he does not appear in Mobile Suit Gundam This suit gets screen time In Gundam 0083 Stardust Memories to help establish Gato's bitterness of the One Year War. I paired these two in the same review since their accessory loadout is the same. The only 2 cosmetic differences between the two is the paint scheme and Char's having a command Antenna. Gato's Gelgoog while widely released in the U.S. saw limited release in Japan. The Figure: Their Heads are identical each other except that Char's Gelgoog has a command antenna. The command Antenna is prone to warping so be careful how you store the figure. Their heads turns with 360 degrees of rotation with not much ability to tilt up or down. The arms are standard Version 1 joints with decent moderate interference from the shoulder armor. Elbow movement is unhindered and the forearm panel does not come off like Gelgoog Cannon or Mass-produced Gelgoog. Hands connect via a peg. The shoulder armors have what seems to be rank. I guess Char outranked Gato during the time or they just repeated the same decals of the mass-produced figure on Gato's Gelgoog. Both have the following hands; 1 right handed gun hand and 2 "sword" hands. The Dom-like legs feature version 1 joints with movement limitations around the hip skirt armor due to the rigid plastic. Ankle movement does not seem hindered despite the large armor. Like the Dom these areas of skirt armor feature the 3 thrusters under each. While the detailing is good some panel-lining would make the legs look good. The Torso is just like other gelgoog releases. Waist rotation is 360 degrees with no problems. Like all other gelgoogs this figure has slots for the shield peg and the 2 Beam hilt holder attachments. The Accessories: Beam Rifle: Like the Beam rifles found in all the other Gelgoog releases. This Rifle looks like the one found in the series. It has a little sniper feel to it as well as a retro feeling at the same time. It was not until the mass-produced figures came out that U.S. Fans could get the Beam machinegun. Double Beam Saber/ Beam Naginata: The hilt can be mounted using either attachment to mount on the rear skirt armor or back. The back pegs are occupied with the backpack when you want to mount the pack. Beam blades including 2 yellow Naginata blades and lack the straight blades. Shield: Typical Gelgoog shield. Two attachments are present. One serving as a handle and the other serves as the connecting point to the back. Gato's Shield has a yellow border with black center while Char's has the purple center. Both have a Zeon decal in the center. Play Value: Another couple of Aces to combat Gundam. With the Beam Rifle and Beam naginata I am sure this makes for a more dangerous foe to put up against Gundam and of course kill lots of GMs and Balls. Display Value: The Blue-green scheme of Gato's Gelgoog seem stands out more favorably the Char's Gelgoog. Putting the two together can set up a neat contrast that may make that Salmon suit almost decent. Conclusion: These are solid figures when compared to some of the older releases. The joints are fairly set and it looks imposing enough (well maybe not the salmon paint scheme). I would love to see the gelgoog get the version 2 treatment. Already the Dom Version 2 from what I see promises to be great so imagine what could be done for a version 2 Gelgoog! | ![]() | ![]() |
