After the violent storm from the island of the sun god, I landed on Calypso’s (kuh-LIP-so) island, Ogygia (o-GEE-e-uh).  Calypso was the daughter of Atlas (AT-les), the titan who was forced to hold the world on his shoulders.  She was a beautiful sea-nymph, and possessed many god-like qualities.  Calypso rescued me and was very happy to have someone on her island that she normally occupied alone.  She treated me very kindly, and entertained me for a long time.

Calypso wanted me to stay with her forever, and promised me immortality and eternal youth if I agreed.  I was anxious to get back to my home and refused her request.  I remained with her for seven long years.  I was so homesick and missed my wife and son with a passion.  I pleaded with Calypso to let me go home, but she wanted me to stay.

Then Zeus (ZOOS) finally told her that she must give me assistance in returning to Ithaca.  She reluctantly helped me build a raft with which I could sail home.  She gave me provisions that would last a while, and then gave me a good gust of wind.  I was finally away from Calypso and her island of Ogygia.
