The Carlton Summer FeteThanks to the efforts of the Carlton publicity and fundraising teams, the Carlton Summer fete was a great success, raising funds for both the Carlton and the Red Cross. Well done to Lucie, Kate and Ruth for organizing it and for everyone who helped to make it such a hit. RawActive! Theatre
Many Carlton members are competing the RawActive! Theatre challenge currently running at Abbeyfest at Merton Abbey Mills each Saturday night until August 9th.
Two Gentlemen Of Verona
Our next play will be performed in November. Adam and Pippa Cain are directing, so it promises to be a colourful production. There are rumours of a pitch invasion from that other Shakespeare play set in Verona!

The Carlton Dramatic Society celebrated its 75 anniversary in 2002. To commemmorate the event, I'll be adding more historical information about the Society to the site - thanks to James Grayston and David Freeman, the list of past productions now stretches back to the 70's. Watch out for old programmes and accounts of historical shows. At our recent anniversary party we were honoured to have our President, Miss June Whitfield CBE and the Mayor as guests. |

New LookThe web-site now has a slightly new look - I hope you like it! If you find anything that doesn't work or looks wrong, please let me know at s.j.harris@ic.ac.uk (Simon Harris) I have discovered that Tripod's adverts mess up the stylesheets (in fact, prevent them from being loaded at all) if you're using Netscape 4. Later versions of Netscape (6 or 7) work fine, as does Internet Explorer. If you are stuck using Netscape 4, the pages still work, they may just look a bit odd until I find a work- around. |
Trivial Pursuits
Congratulations to everyone in Trivial Pursuits. The show pulled bigger audiences than any recent productions and sold out on most nights - so if you didn't manage to get in this time around, please remember to book in advance for the next show.Even though Trival Pursuits has come to an end, that doesn't mean there's nothing to do now. With Raw! Theatre coming up in January, the Workshop productions in February and March and Dr. and Mrs. Faustus in May, there's plenty to get involved with.

Carlton discussed in academe!
The Carlton's productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Merchant of Venice were discussed at a recent conference. Singaporean scholar Li Lan Yong talked about 'Shakespeare as Virtual Event' at the SCAENA: Shakespeare and his contemporaries in performance conference. The author claims that 'the Carlton's treatment of these productions was particularly interesting and creative'.

Our youngest member yet?
On Friday, 8th June, 2001, Pippa, actor and director, gave birth to a baby girl, Topaz Albany Zoe. Congratulations to Pippa and Adam!
Murder! Power! Domination!
The Carlton's production of Macbeth has now finished - if you saw the show we hope you enjoyed it. The last three nights were fully booked, so if you were unfortunate enough not to get to see it, please remember to book early next time.
Titania's team go to Wembley!
Titania's team of fairies made a surprise appearance at Wembley. Dressed in the fairies' traditional home kit of red and white stripes they battled valiantly against Oberon's team, playing in their 'all black' away kit. After extra time the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
