Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha
This book is about
a man's road to self-discovery through religion. However if you are not ready to except other religions, don't read this book.
I think it makes you think about other religions and might have you even questioning your beliefs. If it doesn't you will
at least hear a beautiful story about how one man came upon his beliefs, not how they were brought to him.
Margaret George's Memoirs of Cleopatria
Although all of
Mrs. George's works are great to read this happens to be my favorite that she has wrote. You see Cleopatria as a woman, you
identify with her, you cry with her, and you feel with her. It's a very emotional piece. Makes you really appericate this
Pharoess of Egypt. You might not want to read the last few chapters. End of the Pharoes of Egypt.
Albert Camus' The Stranger
This book is an
amazing read. It's short, and you won't want to put it down. The first half of the book is colorful. Literally. He talks a
lot about colors, and he's very laid back about life. In the second half, a series of events ends him up in a postion he never
thought he would be in. The end of this book made me think for hours after I finished it.
Kathryn Wesley's The Tenth Kingdom
The namesake of this
site, also a great TV miniseries. This book follows a young woman through her journey in the 9 kingdoms of FairyTales. There's
the Kingdom of Sleeping Beauty. There's the Kingdom of Cinderella, and so forth. This is how the fairy tales ended up today,
for as everyone knows.. it doesn't end with "happily ever after"
Gregory Maquire's Wicked
This book has been turned
into a Tony winning Broadway musical. It's a book about the Wicked Witch of the West, and you find out that she's not wicked
at all. You find out what a horrible corupt place Oz is, and how the Wizard is a evil dictator of the lands. One of my favorite
lines from the book is towards the end, when The Witch goes to visit an old friend, and they get into a philosical debate
about evil.
"Evil isn't a thing, it's not a person, it's an attribute like beauty..."
"It's a power, like wind..."
"It's an infection..."
"it's a metaphyiscal, essentially: the corruptibility of creation-"
"Blame it on the Unnamed God, then"
