"Yes, I think that, if I were female, I would buy MxO and then play fucking dressup tea party." - Matt
And here I was, all set to go to bed after updating the blog for the first time in over a week, when Matt mentions an interview with Matrix Online designer Toby Ragiani. Now, I had no intentions to play Matrix Online before now, because MMORPGs are money sucking time whores, but because I'm a good friend, I've been listening to Matt verbally masturbate in anticipation over it's release for some time now. However, in this interview, Mr. Ragiani was asked if he considered female players a demographic in his design of the game, and if he did, what considerations were made for said demographic. He confirmed the existence of potential female gamers, and promptly mentioned the costume customization and social interaction.
Mr. Ragiani is getting FORTY-TWO RED HOT POKERS SHOVED INTO HIS SKULL. In my dreams. But still.
Now, normally I don't feel particularly consciuos of being a female gamer, because I don't hang out with larger groups of gamers, and most of the gamers I know online are female, but I've always been vaguely aware that socially inept gamers of the male persuasion find female gamers a rare and confusing thing.
I did not, however, expect to find a game designer casually spewing out vaguely derogatory comments about female gamers. Maybe I'm just tired and reacting more irritably than usual, but seriously, what the shit kind of comment is that?
If I'd ever had even the slightest designs to try out the Matrix Online (which I never did, see: MMORPG - waste of time and money), this would turn me off it on principle.
Mr. Ragiani gets multiple crotch kicks from steel-toed boots. Seriously. Asshat.
