Dual bursts of nostalgia from the same era

My leg's gone from oozing pus to just kind of bleeding, which I think is an improvement. There's been a gradual reduction of blood over the last couple days, so I'm going to assume this means it's healing and not festering or something gross like that.
Everything's been very nostalgic lately. There's the new Hitchhiker series, of course. I listened to the second episode tonight while making cookies (cookies!!!!!!), and I'm really enjoying it. It's really reminding me of everything I loved about the series in the first place, and I'm staring to feel more kindly toward Life, the Universe, and Everything, which I think I may have given the short end of the stick because I read it when I was only twelve or thirteen, so I think I missed a lot, and there wasn't quite as much of the humour in it that I could understand, like in the first two books. Possibly I just wasn't old and jaded enough to appreciate the more cynical tone of the humour, as seen above in Ford's comment, since in the first two books Ford (my favourite character in the books and one of my all-time favourite characters ever) was usually a pretty cheerful, perpetually relaxed and drunk character, and after being stranded in the past at the end of The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, he seemed to take on a much harsher tone. Which I know I didn't appreciate as a young, innocent reader, but as an older, very cynical reader, I find myself appreciating it a lot more.
None of this, however, can possibly make Mostly Harmless anything other than a huge, unfortunate mistake.
The other bit of nostalgia comes from randomly deciding I needed to replay Secret of Monkey Island. And then realizing I never actually got very far into Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge. So I had to play that again, and complete it. And now that I've done that, well, obviously the next step is to play Curse of Monkey Island (in Mega-Monkey mode) and see what bits of the story I missed by having no bloody clue about the second game's ending (which is really so out of the blue bizzare I have no words for it).
It also makes me realize that I never had in my possession a copy of Escape from Monkey Island, which most people seemed kind of down on, but I'd really like to know, via my own experience, how much of that is because of the game itself and how much is because of the new game engine, which wasn't the SCUMM system, but was the same one they used in Grim Fandango (called GRIM, I think?). So, despite a lot of unfavourable reactions, I'm really wondering if I can find a copy of it, maybe the PS2 port, and play it. Because I'd rather come to my own opinion than trust someone else's. Rather disappointing that I completely missed it coming out, too. I would have been sixteen at the time.
And, of course, all of this ends up reminding me that LUCASARTS CANCELLED THE NEW SAM AND MAX GAME AND I WILL NEVER FORGIVE THEM.
It still hurts, even after all this time.
And not even the acquisition of two new related sort of blogs (well, one's a genuine blog and the other is more a news site meets blog) to stalk is going to heal that painful, painful wound.
