Games, lynching, and more games

"Real gamers have handles." "Annarchy. I'm Annarchy." "Ann. Can you fit in a suitcase?" - Tycho and Ann, Penny Arcade.
Midterm in thee hours or so. Yurk.
The Civ game ended up going well (we finished it in only two days! new record!), even though I lost quite horribly, a sad defeat after my previous plague-like status. We played until four in the morning, and it was fun. It also resulted in a conversation where I felt the need to reiterate the bit where I hate Wally West.
As soon as it was mentioned that the two players before me had finished their moves, Geoff instantly asked if I was done yet . . .
Me What, do I have magic powers now? Sarri You could be the Flash! We just don't know which one. Probably Wally, because you hate him! Me ~groan~ Sarri Y'know, he doesn't have any of those jealousy issues in the cartoon. He's just happy and all about the fun. Me That's not really selling me. I hate fun, and I hate Wally.
And then I had an asthma attack.
Good times, good times.
Of course, I hate things that aren't Wally, too. Right now I hate LucasArts. News over at the International House of Mojo that Bad-Brain's attempt to form a deal with LEC to buy the code to the cancelled and much lamented Sam and Max: Freelance Police, and the rights.
They've failed.
Report is that they're still trying to talk with Steve Purcell about . . . something. Presumably the rights to make an entirely new Sam and Max game when LucasArts' no longer holds the characters' license. Of course, Telltale Games is also rumoured to be interested in exactly the same thing, being composed of a lot of people who left or were laid off from LucasArts after the Sam and Max project was canned. I'm wondering if Bad-Brain might be the safer bet, since I don't think it's composed of quite so many disgruntled ex-LEC employees. Telltale making a Sam and Max game might unleash a lot of sticky, legal problems if it ever saw the light of day . . .
I'm starting to think that the only good thing to come out of LucasArts' stupidity in the matter of Freelance Police is the formation of these little companies which seem to have gotten the message that there's still a devoted core of adventure gamers who want and miss games that weren't just about killing people. Telltale Games doesn't actually have any known products in development, but Bad-Brain has point-and-click adventure A Vampyre Story and The Orgastic 4 (described as a hardcore hyperactive comic 3D point-and-click adventure) in production (admittedly, they're both "slated" to come out in 2006, but it's better than nothing).
