Sultans release of the moment: U talk 2 much EP

Why?? Four classic tracks all of which could have been singles:

U talk 2 much: Really Good song from CSITC

Japanese Girls: classic and most typical sultans tune

Armitage shanks: Bloody brilliant song about toilets, again classic sultans material

Robocop: Superb.. My favourite sultans song ever..

The following Is a list of all Known sultans releases (in chronological order).. If anythings not here (Including bootlegs, etc) that U have.. Please email me with it.. Cheers

What about those sultans EP
(Confessions of a Sellafield Sex Guru)

whatabout.jpg

Track Listing:
1.Riot at the sheepdog trials
2.stupid Kid
3.Eamonn Andrews
4.Miricals(Shonen Knife)
5.Crash Pad Chick(Carmody)

Comments:
This was a mail order only 12" of the sultans 1st demo tape and covers. which was entitled "confessions of a sellafield sex guru" versions of "Riot at the sheepdog trials" and "Stupid Kid" are very different but "Crash pad chick" and "Miricals" are identical to versions that appear in later sultans releases. Eamonn Andrews is also a very good song, and unique to the EP.

Wheres me Jumper?

wheres_me.jpg

Track Listing:
1.Wheres me jumper?
2.I said I am I said
3.Turnip fish

Comments:
the sultans most infamous single and worlds best known no. 67 hit (It was bigger than that in Eire though, im led to believe). great B sides and Modern Classic A-side.. Need I say more.

Give him a ball (and a yard of grass)

ball.jpg

Tracklisting:
1. give him a ball...(Live)

This promo only, single sided, clear flexidisc was created to promote the stupid Kid EP. Track is the same live recording of "Give him a ball.." as on stupid kid EP but this is a really nice sultans item if you can get your hands on it. there were only about 1000 made

Stupid kid EP

stupidkid.jpg

Tracklisting:
1.Stupid kid
2.Give him a ball and a yard of grass (Live)
3.Football Hooligan (Live)
4.No More Nonsense (Live)

Comments:
Sultans second single, Stupid Kid is in my opinon the weakest song on CSITC still, however the B-sides more than make up for this. The songs "football hooligan" and "No more nonsense" Were never actually studio recorded but they (esp the latter)should have been. nialls adlibs are very funny.

Veronica

veronicacov.jpg

tracklisting:
1.Veronica
2.Teenage vampire
3.Riot at the sheepdog trials

Comments:
Nice little single. I love the Root vegetable.. Incredible type references. "Teenage vampire" is a rather jolly tune. "Riot at the sheepdog trials" is good but the version is far inferior to that on the "what about those...EP". Again I'll put the pic up as soon as i can scan it.

Casual sex in the ciniplex

casualsex.jpg

Tracklisting:
1.Back in a tracksuit
2.Indeed you are
3.He thought I was your best friend (Japan only)
4.Veronica
5.2 pints of rasa
6.Stupid kid
7.You talk too much
8.Give him a ball (and a yard of Grass)
9.Karaoke queen
10.let's go shopping
11.Kick me with your leather boots
12.Clitus clarke
13.Japanese girls (Japan only)
14.Wheres me jumper?

Comments:
First sultans album, definatley the maddest and most endearing sultans album. Not a duff song. I think that they prob should have left out "wheres me jumper?" as a matter of principal, but having said that I'm glad they didnt cos it goes well with the rest of the album and helped it get to no. 26 in the UK charts.

U talk 2 Much

utalk2much.jpg

Tracklisting:
1.U talk 2 much
2.Japanese girls (Feedback mix on 10" and tape)
3.Armitage shanks
4.Turnip fish (CD ONLY)
4.Robocop (10"+ Tape ONLY)
4.i said I am I said (12" only)

Comments:
As I've said.. My favourite overall Sultans release, was really an EP. I wish that theyd put robocop on the CD as my 10" is getting pretty worn out at home.

Japanese Girls (Japan only)

japanesegirls.jpg

Tracklisting:
1.Japanese Girls
2.Armitage shanks
3.I said I am I said
4.Turnip fish

Good artwork, good compilation, no new tracks but 12 pages of cool photos and its rarity value make it worth having

Wake up and Scratch me

wakup.jpg

Tracklisting:
1.Wake up and scratch me
2.Do re me(Carter USM)
3.Everything you do you do for you
4.Lets go shopping

Comments:
Good single.. nice harmonica "Riff". "Do re mi" cover is far superior to the original carter version (Which I do like) "Everything you do.." is very catchy and £Lets go shopping is same version as on CSITC.

Teenage punks

teenage_punks.jpg

1.Teenage punks
2.Indeed you are (Live)
3.He thought I was your best friend
4.Crash pad chick (CD only)
4.Veronica (Live) (12" only)
4.Back in a Tracksuit (Live) (Tape only)

"Teenage punks" is probably the sultans second most remembered song and a good one at that. "Indeed you are (Live)" Is such a good track becaused the raw energy really comes through. Niall seems to be screaming the lyrics. "He thought.." Is a good song but defibatley more suited to the CSITC songwriting era. "Crash pad Chick" is a really weird song" has anyone got the original version?? cant say much bout live version of "Veronica" cos I dont own the 12". I really should buy it..

Teenage Drug/Planet sexy war

teenage.jpg

Tracklisting:
1.teenage Drug
2.Wake up and scratch me
3.Love and Understanding
4.Michiko
5.X'mas Bubblegum machine (Japanese Only)

8.Curse
9.Teenrage rock 'n' roll girl
10.Teenage punks (from planet sexy love)
11.Pussycat
12.Sisters
13.Pussycat (Reprise)
14.Telephone Lover
15.Red Cadillac and a black moustache
16.Crash pad chick (Japanese Only)

druggy.jpg

Comments:
"Teenage planet sexy war" was the Japanese release. It had Different cover art and Different inner sleeve art as well as slightly different tracklisting from teenage drug. Without a doubt the sultans best Album, at least from a commercial point of view and my own personal favourite. perfect Pop/punk I belive is the phrase. Also pictured is Different cover art from Central European version of the album.

Michiko

michiko.jpg

Tracklisting:
1.Michiko
2.X'mas bubblegum Machine
3.Miricals(shonen knife)
4.Japanese girls (Acoustic party mix) (CD only)
4.Stupid Kid Live (12" Only)

Michiko is the Sultans most poptastic Single.. I really really love it. With all the other singles u think. This Is good but i can see why people dont buy it but when I listen to "Michiko" I think: Why wasnt this at number 1 in the charts for ever? That said, in my opinion the cover art is the worst for any sultans release. X'mas bubblegum machine is a really great song and would have been a christmas hit if they'd released it as a single. Im not that keen on "miricals" and the acoustic version of Japanese Girls is, in my opinion the worst thing the sultans ever commited to record. they seem to systematically murder the great song.

Teenage EP

teenageep.gif

Tracklisting:
1.teenage punks from planet sexylove,
2.teenage rock'n'roll girl,
3.teenage drug,
4.teenage vampire (live from Japan)

First proper Japan cash in CD. All the tracks are the same versions including the deceptivley titled teenage vampire live, which is in fact the veronica version with some niall ad libbing tacked on

Miracle Michiko EP

mandme.jpg

Tracklisting:

1. Miracles (shonen kife cover)
2. Michiko
3. Do Re Me (Carter Cover)
4. Veronica (Live)
5. Japanese Girls (Acoustic Party Mix)

Whats to say? Another Japanese cash in compilation, Version of veronica live is the same as the 12" of Teenage Punks

Mescaline

mescalin.jpg

Tracklisting:
1.Mescaline
2.Shake
3.Bird doggin(Cover)

A real change of musical direction for the sultans. Niall's favourite band are the cramps and he's really letting us know it, I'd call it Trash rock, If you were American you'd call it punk. Either way.. Its amazin. title track features the timeless lines "youve got something, baby I want it, I cant put my finger on it". "Shake" is really good It should have been a single from the album (If theyd released anymore) and "Bird doggin" is OK.

Good year for trouble

gyft-old.jpg

Tracklisting:
1.Frenzy
2.Scar on my face
3.Mescaline
4.Good year for trouble
5.Young and twisted
6.Rubberman
7.Shiny boots
8.I've got your girl
9.Five years(Cover)
10.Hero of our time
11.bad boyfriend
12.Shake

Comments:
Well if anyone had told me that the sultans would write a serious hardcore punk album.. I probably would've laughed. Well they did..and do you know what?? It was bloody good. Perhaps not for the most lighthearted of sultans fans but if you want my advice kids.. Put the Volume to 11 and Jump about your bedroom like a mad thing. Original cover art (Above) was considered "Too explicit" by some hightstreet record stores so was replaced with what you see below.

Other stuff

The Worlds of... CD-i

Do you remember the dark ages before the dawn of DVD, Yes? Well do you remember there was something called the Phillips CD-i which claimed to be the future of video/ interactive media?  In short it obviously wasn't but there was a sultans of ping f.c. computer game released on it. Its very rare and also features other bands on the sultans label. It consists of; a Sultans Game, Interactive interview and the video for U talk 2 much. Its probably the rarest sultans release by a country mile. If you own this, congratualations you are a fellow obsessive!

glam2.gif

Carter USM: Glam rock cops

Tracklisting,
2.Bloodsport for all

Comments:
A Carter release yes, but feautures the sultans doing a cover of the classic carter "Hit" "Bloodsport for all" the rhythm has changed into a classic morty drum madness thing and the cover itself is really energetic.

Bootlegs

cassetteo.gif

June 92, Conna castle, co Cork + (rare Radio tracks)

Tracklisting:

(live)
1.I said I am I said
2.Kick me with...

14.No more nonsense
15.Wheres me Jumper?

(Radio tracks)
16.Wheres me jumper? (Demo)
17.No more plastic pitches
18.Veronica (Demo)

Comments:
Quality of live recording is very good, specially considering that my tape is prob a copy of a copy of a copy!!, Very good performance and wonderful ad-libbing from niall.. Wonderful... Im gonna transfer it to CD as soon as pos so I can keep the quality. Radio sessions are good, Wheres me jumper (Demo, has an extra verse line), No more plastic pitches is a very typical CSITC sortof song and Veronica (Demo) has a funky guitar part at the start and sounds a Lot rockier... Cheers to Mike Flynn for sending me it!!

I have some more bootlegs now so expect some more reviews to appear soonish
