With the Dominion War over and the United Federation of Planets presently at peacetime, most regular marine units were
downgraded and outright removed from a large number of ships. The Discovery is no different, and with no demand for large
ground battalions, the ship was given a more smaller and much more specialized unit used for special situations. Their organization
of this unit would be downgraded from battalion level to a single platoon. This platoon has been designated the 85th (FIST)
Detachment.
The 85th FIST (Fast Infantry Support Team) is a Starfleet Marine infantry unit attached with the USS Discovery.
It's purpose is to provide the Security Department a harder punch in away missions and to provide the command team of the
Discovery a more specialized unit for combat advance parties, counter-terrorism, hostage situations and special operations
that the Discovery Security department may not have the equipment of experience to properly undertake.
