MARCAL SCENES PAGE 10
Scene 14 Daisies & A Frame May 26 Setup: At the police station, Antonio is on the phone taking to Cris who is at the diner trying to run things for Carlotta. Antonio is offering unsolicited advice and ticking off Cris. Jen storms into the police station and then over to Antonio. Jen: Don’t tell me you don’t know what’s going on because I know you do. Antonio hangs up the phone. Antonio: Jen, try to calm down. Jen slams a copy of The Sun on Antonio’s desk. The headline reads Lindsay Kills Again. Jen: You want me to calm down then tell me this isn’t true. Antonio: There was an attempt on the life of one of the patients at St. Ann's. That much is true. Jen: Who? Antonio: We haven't released the name yet. Jen: Tell me, Antonio! Come on. Antonio: Blair Cramer's mother. Now, there's a good possibility she won't make it. Jen: Why would my mom -- I mean, what does she have to do with anything? Antonio: A witness saw your mother standing over her with a pillow. Jen, we're not sure that she did it. The evidence is just circumstantial. The problem is, we haven't been able to question her. Jen: She's totally lost it again? Antonio: She's escaped. Jen: What? Antonio: We put out an A.P.B., and actually, we've been trying to reach you. Jen: She didn't even come to see me. I mean, where would she be? Where do you think she went? Marcie rushes into the police station and rushes up to Antonio. Marcie: I'm late. I know. I'm so sorry. You know, I didn't have any change, and then I -- I had to go into the store. And then the bus came -- Antonio: Marcie -- Marcie: Then it left. Antonio: (smiles) Calm down. Just don't make a habit of it, ok? Marcie: I won't. Antonio: All right. Marcie: I promise. Antonio walks to the inner office. Marcie turns to Jen. Marcie: Hi, Jen. um -- Jen, you know, I didn't know about your mom. I'm sorry. Jen throws up her hand. Jen: (chilly tone) Save it. Marcie sighs and walks to her desk. Antonio returns. Antonio: Jen -- if you speak to her, call. Jen: Yeah. Because you've been such a huge help so far. Jen storms off. Marcie makes a phone call from her desk to Bo’s office. He answers it. Marcie: I just wanted to see if you needed anything, sir. Bo: No, thank you, Marcie, but I'll sure let you know if I do. Bo laughs as he hangs up the phone.
Later, Bo and Nora are in Bo’s office discussing the surprising fact that Mitch’s brother Walker may still be alive. Walker Laurence enters the police station and walks next to Marcie’s desk. She looks up at him. Marcie: Can I help you? Walker looks at her (the soap opera pause).
May 27 Setup: Marcie is sitting at the receptionist desk. The phone rings. Marcie: Llanview P.D. How may I direct your call? Man: (very affected accent) Yes, I was wondering if I could speak to the cute receptionist, please. Marcie: Well, I'm sorry, that girl quit last week. Man: No, no, I believe she's working right now, actually. Marcie looks confused then looks over and sees Al standing in the doorway to the office talking on a cell phone. They both laugh Marcie: (smiles) Well, I'm flattered, really, but I'm kind of dating somebody. Al rushes toward her, smiling and hiding a flower behind his back. Al: Whoa, hey, what do you mean "kind of," huh? Marcie: What are you doing here? Al: Well, I thought that I'd stop by and bring you a little something on your first day at work. Al gives her the flower. Marcie: A Gerber Daisy! That's my favorite! How did you know? Al: I don't know. Marcie takes the flower and sniffs it. Marcie: It's beautiful. Thank you. Al pulls over and chair and sits close to her. Al: No problem. So, how are things going? Marcie: Well, it's kind of crazy here today. Your mom was really nice to get me this job. I hope I don't let her down. Al: Oh, I'm sure that you are going to do just fine. The phone rings and Marcie answers it. Marcie: Llanview P.D. How may I direct your call? She smiles over at Al as she talks on the phone.
Later, Al and Marcie are still sitting next to each other and leaning in close. Marcie: So the president of Llanview U. is here and Commissioner Buchanan just totally goes off on him because, well, he's not doing enough to clean up the drugs on campus. Al: (thoughtful; nods head) I'm down with that. Marcie: And so he's going to get security to do drug checks in people's rooms. Al: Well, it's a good thing I don't have to worry about that anymore, huh? Al nods as he looks at Marcie. Marcie: Yeah, it is. (laughs) Marcie: (anxious) Should I be telling you all of this? You know I can get in trouble because I can't keep my mouth shut. Al: Well, you're doing a pretty good job keeping the secret that I'm the Voice of the Night. Marcie: So why did you decide to keep it a secret? Al: You know, it wasn't really a conscious decision. It just sort of took on a life of its own. I liked it, you know? It's fun being someone else. Al leans in even closer. Marcie: Hmm. (smiles and looks Al in the eye) Well, I like you when you're you. And it is kind of cool knowing that, you know, being the only one who knows that you're the Voice. And I won't blab, I swear. Al: I know you won't. Listen, Mrs. Vega is doing the Angel Square party, and I thought I'd go check it out. So when you're done here, you want to meet me? Marcie: (smiles & fidgets in her seat) Sure. Al: Cool. Marcie: See you then. He leans in to kiss her but then realizes they are in an open office space. He kisses her on the cheek instead. Al: Yes. Al gets up and walks toward the door. Al: Later. Marcie smiles as she watches him then sniffs her flower again. Al is at the garage club sitting on the edge of the stage listening to a CD on a portable player. Riley is standing next to him and watching him. Al takes off the headphones. Riley: So what do you think? Al: These bands are all great. I've never heard of any of them, though. Riley: Yeah, they don't get any airplay. Al: You know, I have a friend down at the campus radio station. I might be able to talk him into giving some of these a spin. Riley: Sweet. Well, we got lucky. When that Voice of the Night guy ran Flash's song at Capricorn -- Al: Yeah? Riley: Some producer heard us and wants Midnight Logic to cut a CD. Al: Wow, that's -- that's great, man. Riley: Thanks. Al: Way to go. Riley: Hey, you know what? I got a few more tunes I think you'll like. Al: Cool. Riley: Be right back. Al: Right on. Riley leaves and Brad appears. He sneaks up behind Al and then waves a large bag of pills under Al’s nose. Al pushes the bag away. Al: Get that stuff out of my face, all right? Brad: You seem like you could use it. Al: I'm done with that. Brad: Come on, man, you felt better, admit it. Al: No, I felt worse. I felt a lot worse when I was on that stuff. Brad: Yeah, well, if you don't like what I gave you, try this. It's something different. Brad reaches into his pocket and pulls out a pill. He hands it to Al. Al: Oh, something different? Yeah, great, man. Al takes the pill, throws it on the floor then grinds it under his foot and then jumps in Brad’s face. Brad: Why did you do that? Al gets even closer to Brad and tries to intimidate him with his size. Al: Because it's what I'd like to do to your head – Al moves closer and Brad puts his hand on Al’s chest and pushes him back. Brad: Hey, chill. Al: For turning me into a junkie in the first place, all right? Brad: You came to me, all right? I'm just saying that when you want to come back, I'll be here. Al: And now I'm telling you that I'm over that. (Al grabs Brad’s shirt) So back off. (pats Brad dismissively on the face) Brad: Or what? Al: You got me? Al releases Brad. Brad: Or what? You going to get me busted? Al: No, no, I'm not going to rat you out, Brad. But I hope somebody does. Al walks out of the club. Brad: (mutters to himself) Oh, you just made a big mistake.
Al is standing next to Marcie’s desk at the police station. Marcie: Why aren't you at the party? Al: Well, I was going, and I stopped at home, checked the mail, and I got this. He hands her an envelope. Marcie: Wow, I didn't know our grades came already. Al: Yeah. Well, open it up. Read it. Marcie tries to hand the envelope back to him. Marcie: I'm sure you did fine. Al: Fine is not going to be enough to get me into law school. Just could you read it, please? Open it up, please? Marcie opens the envelope and looks over the sheet of grades. Al fidgets and tents his hands over his mouth. Marcie: Okay! Okay! Here we go. English Lit, C. Al flops down in a chair. Al: Oh, I see how this is going to go. Marcie: It's okay. Sociology, B. (Al leans in closer) Political Science, B. (Al leans in closer to Marcie) History, you got an A! You did it! You got an A! Marcie opens her arms and Al pounds the desk. They hug and then look at each other with smiles on their faces. Al: Hey -- we did it. They look lovingly in each other’s eyes.
May 29 Setup: Al is in his dorm room. He dials his phone and opens his mini-fridge and gets a soda. He opens it and sits on his bed. Marcie is working at her desk when the phone rings. Marcie: Llanview police department, how may I direct your call? Al: Hey, it's me, Marcie. Marcie: (smiles) Al, hey. How are you? Al: I'm good. Listen, I wanted to know if you wanted to go grab a pizza pie. Marcie: Gee, I'd love to, but I can't. There's so much going on here. It's pretty much nonstop. Al: Well, everything's ok, though, right? Marcie: Oh, yeah. It's exciting. Everybody's been really nice. Al: Good. Good to hear it. Marcie: Except, you know, sometimes it can get a little nerve-racking. It's so life and death, you know? All the officers are talking about that woman who was almost murdered at St. Ann's, you know, where Jen's mother is? She's missing. Nobody knows where she is. It's really creepy. Al: They'll find her. Don't worry about it. Marcie: I hope so. And there was a big meeting about the zero tolerance drug sweep on campus. I heard that they're going to be searching all the dorm rooms tonight. Al: Well, good. I hope they clean this place up of all the drug dealers, man. Marcie: I keep hoping that I get to see Brad White brought in in handcuffs, you know? Al: (forceful and serious) Listen, if he comes in there, I want you to stay as far away from him as possible. (Marcie sighs, obviously pleased to hear his concern) I'm serious, Marcie. The guy is dangerous. Marcie: I'll be fine. Al: So, what time are you getting off today? Marcie: Around 12:00, unfortunately. Al: Well, do you want to go out, you know, after work? I mean, that is, you know, if you're up to it, you're not too tired, you know. Marcie: I'd really like that. Al: Good. Then I'll pick you up after midnight. Marcie hangs up. She claps her hands, giggles, and grabs one of her flowers. She sniffs the flower, smiles and looks over at the phone. In the meanwhile, Al grabs his keys and leaves him room. Brad appears and uses a key to open the door to Al’s room. Brad: Amazing what 20 bucks will get you. He enters the room and looks around. He spots the desk and opens the center drawer. He plants a large bag of pills next to the paper and pens. Later, two security guards are standing outside of Al’s dorm room door. Al walks up. Al: (cheerfully) Hey, fellas, can I help you guys out? Guard 1: Yeah, we're conducting a campus-wide drug sweep. We need permission to search your room. Al: Permission granted. (Al opens the door) Search away. The guards enter the room and look around. One guard checks over by the bed and the other opens the center drawer to the desk and spots the bag of pills. Guard 2: Oh -- here we go. (pulls out a large ziplock back of pills) Guard 1: Figures. It's always the helpful ones. Al: Wait a second. What are you talking about? Those are not mine. That's not my drugs. Guard 1: Then what's it doing in your room? Al: I -- I don't know. Somebody must have planted it there, but it's not mine. Guard 2: Never heard that one before. Guard 1: You're busted, kid. You'll have to come with us. Al: No, no, no, I'm sorry. I am not going anywhere with anyone, ok? Guard 1: Call the L.P.D., Get a squad car down here. Al: Listen -- let's just be sensible here, ok? Why would I give you permission to search my room if I had drugs in it? Especially in such an obvious place. It doesn't make any sense, does it? Guard 1: It's your choice, buddy -- come with us or we get the cops down here. Al: But I'm innocent. I'm telling you, guys, these are not my drugs. Guard 1 puts his hand on Al’s shoulder and pushes him out of the room.
Bo is in his office talking to Walker Laurence about Mitch. There is a knock on the door. Bo: Yeah? Marcie opens the door. Marcie: I'm sorry to interrupt, Commissioner. The university called, and they've done a drug sweep and taken a suspect into custody. Sergeant Murphy wants to know if you want to handle the interrogation. Bo: No, I'm right in the middle of something here, Marcie, so tell Murphy to go ahead and take care of it. Marcie: Yes, sir. Marcie closes the door and turns just in time to see the guards bringing in a handcuffed Al. Guard 1: Name's Al Holden. A consent search turned up a stash of amphetamines in his dorm room. Marcie rushes forward. Marcie: Al, is it true? Al sees her. He looks at her directly and talks slowly and in a calm voice. Al: Marcie, you know me. I haven't done anything wrong. Marcie glances around the room, obviously distressed.
Later, Marcie is sitting at her desk as an officer handcuffs Al to a bench. Officer: There. I won’t be long. The officer leaves. Al looks over at Marcie. She sighs and then gets up and walks over to him. Al: Marcie, this is all wrong. Look, I don't know how that stuff got in my room, I swear. Marcie: (crosses arms over her chest) Are you back on drugs? Al: (leans forward) I can't believe you'd even ask me that. Marcie: Well, the security guards found them in your room. Al: I thought you trusted me. Marcie: Are you clean? Al: Marcie, I am clean. I'm not back on drugs, and I haven't done anything wrong. Marcie: (nods) All right. Good enough for me. Al: You believe me? Marcie: (smiles) Yes. I do, I believe you. Al: (exhales and looks at the ceiling) Oh, man. Thank God. Marcie and Al look at each other and smile. Max walks into the reception area and sees Al. Max: What the hell is going on with you? (He slaps Al on the back) Al turns and faces him. Al: Look, Dad, I can explain. Max: Well, you damned well better! Marcie stays back and watches them with a worried expression on her face. Max: I get a call from the cops telling me you've been busted for possession? Marcie moves closer to Al. Al: Dad, this is all a big mistake. Max: A mistake? Oh, yeah, you got that right. For -- how do I tell your mom? Al: Will you just listen to me? Max: I have listened to you for so long, and you're still in trouble! Marcie steps next to Al and faces Max. Marcie: Mr. Holden, stop it. Max: Excuse me? Marcie: This isn't about you or about how mad you are. It's about Al. He says he's innocent and I believe him. Al: She's right, Dad. The drugs they found were not mine. Marcie: He was framed. Max: Is that true? Al: It's true, dad. I'm clean. I would never go back on my word to you and mom. not now, not ever. Max: Forgive me, son. (cups his hand on the back of Al’s neck) I'm – (covers face with hands) Marcie, Marcie, you're right. I'm just -- look, you say you're innocent, that's all I need to hear. Al: Yeah, well, that's not going to keep me from getting convicted. Nobody else is going to believe me. Max: We will make them believe you. Look, if you've been set up, we'll find a way to prove it. Look, your mother and I are both on your side here. We'll make this happen, all right? You have any idea who did this? Al: Yeah. Bradley White. Al looks over at Marcie. She frowns and tightens her arms across her chest. Marcie: Ugh. I hate that guy. That jerk, he's a total sleazebag. He's the dealer. Al: Yeah. I had a run-in with him at the garage. I got a little physical with him. Max: What happened? Al: He came up to me and tried to push some drugs on me. I jumped up, grabbed him, and set him straight, you know? Listen, everybody knows about this drug sweep. You know? He probably figured it was an easy way to shift blame from himself and exact revenge all at the same time. Marcie: Al, you know, I swear I will find a way to help. Marcie walks around and perches on the back of the bench that is behind Al. Marcie: You know, working for the police department has to count for something. I swear, I'll find a way to prove that it wasn't you. Al turns Al: Just the fact that you believe in me – (he strokes her face lightly with the back of his free hand) that's enough. Al grabs Marcie’s hand and holds it. They smile at each other lovingly.
That last scene was so touching! Al in handcuffs touching Marcie's
face with his free hand. Sigh. Personally, I feel sorry for one Mr. Bradley
White. LOL Marcie Walsh, Police Receptionist, is on the case! Brad made a
huge mistake trying to hurt Al. Now Marcie and Al are going to kick rear end and
take names. I guess it is obvious that I LOVED this sequence!
