Little Wars
Little Wars Within Ourselves Make All the Difference in Winning it All!

Writing about my own team in this newsletter is always a difficult task. I am not one to blow my own horn off the field. But, it is an unavoidable task this week, since I have just won my fifth Chowder Bowl. Let me start by reaffirming what I have been saying all along. This is the most formidable group of owners we have ever had in this league. Having won a sixteen-team league that sports such a competitive and well-informed group of veteran owners. Quite frankly, is overwhelming! As a fantasy player, this without a doubt is my crowning achievement. I am elated and very proud to have earned the right to hold the Cup in celebration of the year 2000 PSFFL Championship.
I would like to extend heart-felt congratulations to my worthiest opponent this year. To my Brother Lou, who came through with a very strong year that was his best effort so far. He gave it all he had and it showed all year long. He had me wiggling in my chair Monday night. As I watched in disbelief as Marshall Faulk carved up the Tampa Bay defense. Fortunately for me, I decided to stick with the Carolina defense this week. I had second thoughts going into the weekend. I thought the 49ers playing at home against a sloppy Chicago team was tempting. But, somehow the possibility of Ryan Leaf at Carolina seemed like a better choice. It is the little wars within our minds like that one. That often spells the difference between winning and losing each week. The Panthers did not force Leaf into any big mistakes. But, I got lucky when the Panthers returned a punt for a 64-yd TD. Then blocked a field goal and returned it for a 54 yd TD late in the second half, this preserved victory for me. The Dolphins made the right choice when they decided to start the KC defense against Denver. Because Denver has given up the most special teams defensive TD’s in the NFL this year. However, lucky for me and not for him. His other defense, San Diego, scored enough points for him to have beaten me. Even when we are right, we can be wrong in this game!
I feel that my draft this year was the best in my history as a fantasy owner. I took extra time and made the extra effort in preparation. Because with sixteen teams, the free agent pool would be thin. I felt depth was of the utmost importance. I had it, and it was the key to victory along the way. Also, I was fortunate to have not suffered too badly from injuries. When Rickey Williams went down, I had my doubts. But, Jamal Lewis came through and Tyrone Wheatley played through his pain. The steal of this year’s draft was without a doubt, QB Jeff Garcia. There were a few deciding factors that went into drafting him. Of which I will not reveal. I doubt he will go late in the sixth round next year though. He's my MVP, what a bargain!
I am glad that I will be able to enjoy the Cup this off-season. I must admit, even though I do get a kick out of seeing other owners find joy and happiness from our league. A part of me felt cheated when Bob Lee walked out the door with it this past summer. I spent ten years working towards getting that Cup to be a PSFFL reality. It hurt to see it in someone else’s possession the first year of its existence, even though Bob was worthy of the reward. I vowed to win it for myself then and there. I can rest in peace now!
The Toilet Bowl went down to the wire Monday night and saw L Train come from behind to defeat The Stallions 308 to 305. Keyshawn Johnson’s 19 points preserved victory for the L Train. Although, The Stallions TE Dave Moore dropped a would be winning TD pass in the end zone. It almost looked as if he batted it away from himself. Anyway, there was a horrifyingly loud clanging noise as it went off his fingertips, or is that stubs. I swear I saw sparks! A job well done by the Train, bring it back next year dude’s!
I want to thank everyone for his or her kind words about the league and how it was run this year. Playing in a league of this size was an overwhelming proposition at first. But, I think most of us made the adjustment and ended up enjoying the challenge. As someone posted in the chat room. It makes the other ten-team leagues seem like candy land. What we learned about players this year. We will carry with us and serve us well as owners, for years to come! Not only do we know whom the top number ones and two’s are at each position. But, the number three’s and fours and the maybes, as well! We had our share of glitches this year and at times I was overwhelmed. Especially on draft night! I admit the constitution needs to be clarified here and there and will take care of it ASAP. Don't worry it isn't anything serious. Just a couple of vague explanations need cleaning up. There is always room for improvement. So please let me hear your ideas.
Thanks for playing and have a great off-season.
