2005 Everett Enemies - Enemy Number One!
Chowder Bowl 16 went down to the Monday night game with Corey Dillon toting the rock for the SHARK. Down by 32-points at kickoff, Dillon saw plenty of action but the Patriots decided that a tackle eligible pass was the answer twice, early on, for scores inside the 5-yard line. Dillon however, did manage two scores and enough yardage to make it respectable at the final gun. The Enemies came away with a 141- 128 win to capture the cup and a purse of $365.00 while setting a new record for most points scored by a team in a post season game.
The Everett Enemies entered the playoffs as the number one seed and took full advantage of a first round bye, following it up with a semi-final win over the Lazy Boys in week 15. Week 16 looked a little bleak for the Enemies with RB Lamont Jordan out, and RB Dominic Davis a game time decision. The Enemies tried to cover their bases by adding two players from a depleted free agent pool. They found a potential sleeper in 49er rookie RB Frank Gore. However, he too, was listed as questionable until later in the week when he was upgraded to probable. Gore had a favorable match-up against the Rams, making him a decent play.
The Enemies have two RB’s that are in RBBC situations but only need a small crack in the defense to explode for a huge gainer. Tatum Bell and Willie Parker are the part timers, but the latter took advantage of limited touches skating 80-yards for a touchdown with one of them. Gore pitched in with 68-yards and two TD’s (18 fantasy points) in his time-share effort. However, the back breaker for the SHARK was the Pittsburgh Steelers D/ST. The Steelers dominated the Cleveland Browns by limiting them to 55-yards rushing, 183-yards passing, 0-points allowed, and collecting one takeaway with 8-sacks. The final tally for the unit that has been selected as the Chowder Bowl MVP, was 35-points. I have always said that it takes balls to win this league. At some point, you need to put your boys on the anvil and hope for the best. The Enemies did just that, and will now reign as the 2005 PSFFL Champions. They will also be feeding us at next years owners meeting (If they see fit to honor us with their presence). It is all about priorities gentlemen!
SHARK RB Larry Johnson again led individual players in scoring in the Chowder Bowl with 29-points while Corey Dillon added 19-points. The shortcoming for the SHARK was at TE, where the injury to Erron Kinney, gave way to a declining LJ Smith mired in a sorry Eagles offense!
The loss in the Chowder Bowl put an end to a brilliant run of six wins in a row for the SHARK. They were able to turn a 2-4 start into a 7-6 finish and a number six seed into the playoffs, where they won both games leading up to the championship. The SHARK is famous for their mid season rallies and can never be counted out of any playoff run. It has been said, that the recent surge of quality ownership throughout the PSFFL has left the SHARK behind, in recent years. Some have said the SHARK is no longer the dominant force they once were. It is true; the PSFFL is bigger and stronger than ever before. However, outside of nirvana, there is no hard evidence to back these claims. The SHARK won the cup in 2000, and 2001 for their fifth and sixth championships. They lost in the Chowder Bowl in 2003, missed the playoffs for the first time in 2004, and made it to the final again this season. I can only conclude given the hard evidence before me; those that can, do, and those that cannot, watch them do it! Whoever started those silly rumors, should wake up and apologize! Because the top player in the 2006 fantasy campaign will undoubtedly be a SHARK!
Stay tuned,
