Background/History:
Stunner was flying around Houston on a hot July night when she saw flames
shooting out the window of a house. She radioed for the authorities and flew in
to see if anyone needed help. Crashing through the window, she saw 12 year old
Melissa Thorne with flames all over her body. Quickly spraying the girl with a
flame retardant foam, she noticed there seemed to be no sign of the girl being
in any pain, but had to concentrate on putting out the flames in the girl’s
bedroom that fortunately had not spread any farther. Turning to Melissa who
still was waking up from a nightmare, Stunner wiped the foam off of her arm and
was shocked to see no burn marks at all. At this point, Melissa threw off her
sleepiness, saw Stunner and the foam, and panicked. Flames shot out of her hands
and Stunner, who had suspected something like this, quickly used an air reducing
attack to cut down the flames and knock her out. Her parents had no idea how she
had these abilities. Stunner created a power dampening device to allow Melissa
to sleep safely and helped her learn to control her powers. In addition to being
able to generate fire, she could fly and was superhumanly fast. In return for
Stunner’s help, Melissa studied hard and became an apprentice of sorts to the
Assembly much in the way that Stunner had started her career with the Justice
Avengers. On her 18th birthday with her parents permission, she took he r
nickname, Hot Shot, and joined the newly renamed Hero Club as a full member. She
and Ion became close and are currently engaged. In one of the possible futures
that has been explored, they have a daughter named Azure who follows in their
footsteps using her energy powers to battle the forces of evil.
Personality/Motivations:
Until the night her powers flared, she was a typical kid. The meeting with
Stunner and the reality of having mutant powers gave her direction and she
wanted to repay Stunner for her help by following in her example to use her
powers to help others.
