How far you have fallen
Without my hand to steady your descent
At the dawn
At the dusk
I am twilight

Look not to the Heavens
Look not to the Earth
For I am straight ahead
At the birth of day
And at the birth of night

In the balance
Wrapped in near darkness
Cloaked with stars
You will find me there
For I am with you still

History:

Nox was a Goddess, the Goddess of Night. She had existed for more time than she cared to account for. She had seen all manner of beings come and go; yet those that were in this last batch of creation were not only the most successful, but also the most interesting by far. Generally she cared not to meddle in the affairs of the mortal realm. She kept herself closely guarded, away from the politics of the Prime Material plane.

But Nox was a voyeur. She was always watching.

Not being interested in keeping a Following, not many mortals were aware of her, so her power did not lie in belief. In fact, no one was quite sure from where she drew her power. She never took part in the contest for souls. She never did anything, really. The others feared her simply because she was an unknown variable. And that was precisely where her power lay.

In mystery. In the unknown. In balance.

All those that existed on the Astral plane knew of her existence, yet no one had communicated openly with her in well over a millennia. She kept company with no one. Like the moon that hung in the sky, she was always present, always watching, and always alone.
