Chapter 3 The Surprise

Saber Rider was walking down the street after he bid his friends good bye. It was a beautiful evening. The sun was about to set, coloring the scenery with its yellow red orange color. Birds were flying in the sky, finding their way back home. Couples in love were strolling down the street hand in hand enjoying themselves after a long day of work.

It was not until then that it finally hit him. Across the street, he saw a couple hugging good bye to one another. It was the exact same scene with him and April earlier. It was then, when that very same scene was playing over and over again in his head like an old record player. He remembered the sad expression on April’s face.

"Until we meet again..." he could hear his own voice echoing through his head.

Unfortunately, he knew from his heart that it will be a long time before he would see them again.

"The guys are indeed lucky to have someone who loves them." he thought when all of the sudden his heart sank.

His heart filled with sadness and yet with envy at the same time. He had never imagined himself that he would be the one who would end up all alone. As he continued walking further down the street, he passed more couples, making him feel more miserable. He picked up his paste to escape all this, but before he knew, he ran into something, or rather someone.

"Ouch...." a voice caught his attention.

The next thing he knew it, a bunch of papers were flying all over the place.

"Oh, I’m so, so sorry, Miss. I don’t know where my mind was..." he trailed of, trying to help her pick up all the papers.

"Oh, that’s OK. Nothing is broken." a familiar voice responded.

She was busy picking up the files that she did not realize whom she had ran into.

Saber Rider suddenly stopped to take a closer look at her. Her beautiful long brown hair was hanging loose, covering her face. Yet, somehow, deep down in his heart, he knew that he had met her before.

"That voice." he said thinking out loud. "It can’t be? Sincia?"

"Huh, beg a pardon?" she finally looked up to him with her hazel brown eyes.

"Saber....Saber Rider. Oh, I can’t believe it. What a lovely surprise."

She immediately dropped her files and went on hugging him tightly.

"How long has it been? 3 ..... 5 years?" Saber asked her while at the same time was pleased to see her again.

"Oh, I don’t know, but it’s good to see you again." Sincia said excited.

"So, how are you?" he continued on asking while going back picking up her files.

Before she could answer him, a deep voice interrupted, calling out for her name.

"Miss Sincia, Miss Sincia." an officer came running down the street. "You left this behind at the Cavalry Command building, Ma’am."

"Oh, thank you very much, Officer."

The officer nodded and then left.

Meanwhile, Saber was finished picking up her files when he saw the whole scene. He remained quiet for a moment before he could say anything.

"Forgive me asking you this, but I could not help notice... .?"

"You are probably wondering what I was doing at the Cavalry Command." she finished his sentence.

"Um, well, yes, kinda..." he cleared his throat.

"Ahem, well, I work there. It’s a long story..." she began to say.

"That’s all right. I have plenty of time to hear it. Do you have anymore work to do? If not, we could discuss it over dinner." he asked her hoping that she would say yes.

"No, actually, I was on my way out before I ran into you." Sincia paused for a second. ".... And, what do you mean you have plenty of time? Don’t you have to be going out soon?"

"Great. Then dinner it is. I’ll explain it later to you over dinner. I know this great restaurant here with a great view. You will love it, I promise you that."

"I can’t wait to see it. Of what are we waiting for. Let’s go then." she said smiling at him.

Both of them went down the street talking to one another about their lives and the good old times, trying to catch up from where they left back then.
