Val felt like she was going to cry. She instinctively took her head off of his shoulder and looked into his eyes. He was looking at her. He closed his eyes and moved in for a kiss. Val was shocked at first, but she knew that it was right. The kiss seemed to go on forever. Val could feel Nick's eyes staring at them. She knew he would be mad after this. She didn't really care.
When the kiss was just beginning to become deeper and deeper, the lights all went out. Val and Alex's kiss broke and Alex pulled her closer.
"What happened?" Val asked.
" I dunno." Said Nick, walking over to Alex and Val.
Alex began pulling Val closer and closer to him. He was holding her as tightly as he could.
"What's wrong?" Val asked him.
"I'm um... um..." Alex couldn't seem to be able to get it out, "I'm kinda...uh scared of the dark."
"Awww..." Val said kissing him again. "It's OK. I think that is cute."
Nick had been laughing ever since Alex said it.
"Shut up Nick!" Val yelled," Tasia, don't you think it's cute? ... Tasia? ... Tasia? ... Nick where is Tas..."
Val never got out the sentence because a loud bang came from out in the hall. Something had been banged against the wall. Val could feel Nick jump and run over to her. He wrapped his arms around her from behind. She knew that he did that because he was scared so she didn't object.
"What the fuck was that?" Nick asked.
" I dunno, let's go find out," Val said.
They all headed towards the door. It was unlocked and opened.
"I thought I locked that." Val whispered.
"You did," Nick confirmed.
Val had a hold of each of the boys' hands and walked them into the hall. She headed towards the stairs. She was about 10 feet from the stairs when she heard crying.
"Tasia? Is that you?" Val asked.
Val struggled to hear a response over the loud sobbing. "Yeah," she heard.
Val let go of the guys' hands and ran over to Tasia. She held one of Alex's hands and one of Nick's hands. She led them towards the sobbing. She helped Tasia up and brought her back to where she left the boys.
" Nick, Help me get her up… Nick! NICK!" Val yelled.
"Where is he?" Alex asked.
"Oh my god!" Val began.
"Don't worry, I'm right here," Nick, said turning on a flashlight, " I went to get this."
"Don't leave us! We can't keep losing people in the dark. Tasia what happened?" Val asked.
"I don't know. First the lights went out," she began, " and then some guy covered my mouth and dragged me out of your room. We got here and he slammed me against the wall. He tried to stab me, he tore the side of my over alls."
"Are you OK?" Alex asked.
"I'll be fine," Tasia answered.
Just then they heard something falling down stairs.
"Nick when are your parents going to be home?" Val asked. Nick could hear the fear in her voice.
"They won't be back until tomorrow morning." nick told her, regretting to ever stay alone.
"DAMMIT!" Val said punching Nick in the arm.
"Well what should we do? We know he is downstairs. Should we stay up here?" Asked Alex.
"He could just as easily come up here." Said Nick.
"Dammit!" Val began. "I say we make a run for it. The door is right there. We can run out and get to your next door neighbors house."
"Yeah, Raina should be there." Nick informed her.
"But are her parents there?" Val asked.
Nick shrugged.
"Well they better be." Val yelled.
"Let's take a run for it on the count of 3." Nick said.
"OK." Val agreed.
"Nick began counting, "One, Two, Three."
They all ran down the stairs. They were three feet from the door when a skinny figure was caught in Nick's flashlight. It was wearing all black and had a ski mask on. They could all easily see the big gin sue knife in it's hand. It already has blood on it. They all started screaming and ran up the stairs. Val could hear the person walking slowly up the stairs, but stopped. Val looked back to see if the person was still coming. They were gone. They all ran into Val's room and shut and locked the door.
"What the fuck, are we going to do?" Tasia screamed.
"Stay calm," Val told her.
Nick shined his flashlight around the room. The closet door was open.
"I think we know how he got a hold of Tasia." Nick said pointing towards the closet.
"He was in here the whole time?" Val asked, shuddering.
Nick continued moving the flashlight around the room. He spotted the window. He sat thinking for a minute.
"Does the window open?" Nick asked Val.
"Yeah," She replied.
Nick walked over to open it. It opened and there was no screen. He stuck his head out to look. There was a trampoline in the next yard. Nick stuck his head back in the room. "I want you guys to go out the window, walk down to the end of the roof and jump onto the trampoline in the next yard. It's about a 4 foot jump. We should all be able to make it. Val you go first."
She started to go out the window. She walked down the roof and was about to jump when she heard something move behind her. It was running and definitely wasn't one of the group. She turned around and saw the person in black. Val started running around on the roof trying to get away from the person. Val stayed away from the window to her room hoping to give the group time to jump.
"Alex! Go, and catch Tasia when she goes! I have to go help Val!" Nick said pushing Alex down the roof. Alex did as he was told and jumped off the roof. He made it and bounced up high. He motioned for Tasia to jump. She did, just barely making it onto the trampoline. She bounced over to the middle of the trampoline where Alex was and they crawled off. They hid underneath it.
Val was still trying to get away from the person when Nick cut her off. He made her scream because she didn't know it was him at first. He put a hand over her mouth to quiet her down. He pulled her over to the edge of the roof and jumped onto the trampoline. He noticed that when they jumped, there was a person in black below them.
Nick and Val crawled off of the trampoline and started running towards the house. Alex and Tasia followed.
"Is this Raina's house?" Tasia asked.
"No, she lives on the other side." Nick said beginning to bang on the sliding glass door. No body answered. The black figure was in the backyard and running towards them now.
Nick gave up on banging on the door and decided to see if it would open. It was unlocked. They all ran in and locked the door. The person in black was banging on the door now.
"HELLO?!" They all yelled, looking for the people that lived there.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Tasia screamed as they walked into the kitchen.
Everyone looked to see what was wrong. The 2 people that lived there were in a bloody heap on the kitchen floor. Nick grabbed Tasia and pulled her close to him. He pushed her face against his chest so she couldn't see them. Val pulled Alex out of the kitchen. They all started heading for the door.
"The pounding stopped! That is never good. That means we don't know where the person is." Alex told them.
"Um, bad news," Nick began, "There are 2 of them."
"What?!" Tasia gasped.
"Yeah, when me and Val jumped off of the roof, I saw another person below us. And there was still that person on the roof." Nick informed them.
"Well we need to get out of here! Obviously they have been here and they know we are in here!" Val said grabbing Alex's hand and pulling him towards the front door.
They got into the living room and noticed that the door was already open.
"Oh no!" Tasia said as her eyes began to water.
"RUN!" Val yelled. Nick grabbed Tasia and pulled her along. The group ran out of the house and were running on Nick's front yard grass when the street lights all went out.
"SHIT!" Val exclaimed as her and Nick both ran into 2 people and landed on their butts. Nick and Val screamed and were about to run, when Nick realized that the people they ran into were screaming too.
"Raina?!" Nick gasped.
"Nick! Is that you?" She exclaimed!
Nick ran over and hugged Raina, lifting her off the ground.
"Who's with you?" Nick asked, squinting to see in the with no light.
"My boyfriend James! Nick we have to get out of here! Someone killed my parents and left them on the couch! We didn't notice anybody when we came home. We just got home like 5 minutes ago!" Raina said pulling Nick down the street.
"Don't go that way! The same people that killed your parents are trying to kill us! They are after us! They killed the Johnson's and they were in my house! We have to go the other way!" Nick screamed, pulling her the other way down the street.
"All the lights are out! Who knows if anybody is even alive on the street?" Val asked.
"Come on!" Nick said leading them into the yard of someone about 6 houses from Nick's house. He went to their back gate and opened it, knowing exactly where to go. He walked into the backyard and to a tree. He started climbing up it.
"Nick, I don't know if a tree house is the best place to fucking be right now!" Val yelled, letting everyone else know that she was freaking out.
"Trust me! This is where me and Bri used to hang out as kids. We haven't been here in 4 years! It is full of our stuff we used to torture our parents with. We can keep and eye out and protect ourselves until morning." Nick stated.
Nick pulled a key out of his pocket. He went to put it in the keyhole, but the door swung open. Nick stuck his head in the tree house and looked around, before motioning for the group to climb in. Val climbed up, followed by Tasia, then Alex, then Raina and finally James.
Nick closed the door and locked it. He turned on his flashlight and skimmed the room again.
"Me and Bri would come up here when we were scared or mad, or sad. We would always know when each other was up here." Nick confessed.
"Why is it in this backyard instead of yours or his?" Tasia asked.
"Well, before this was built, when me and Bri had problems, we would come crying to this nice old lady that lived here. She would give us some cookies and make everything all better." Nick said as a tear ran down his cheek. "One day, me and Bri went to her house crying because me and my mom had had a fight and my mom told me to never talk to Brian again. The lady took us in her back yard and told us that this was for us. We basically lived in here."
"Um! Nick, where is Brian?" Val asked practically screaming.
"OH MY GOD!" Nick screamed. " I have to go find him."
Val had to hold him back as he tried to jump out of the tree house.
"Nick! We can't! We don't even know if Bri was home. If he was, he most likely would have come over! He's probably fine." Val assured.
