Lessons In Life

Chapter Five

After Urban Legends, AJ picked the next movie. Although he would never have admitted it to anyone, he was a sappy romantic at heart, so he wanted to see Titanic. Before they all got settled in, they went into the kitchen to get some drinks and more popcorn.
"Okay Alyssa, now it's time to see what you're made of. Do you want wine or beer?" AJ asked with a grin.
"Oh, definitely wine," she smiled.
"Alright then, red or white?"
"Neither."
"What do you mean by neither," he asked with a puzzled look on his face.
"Well, the wine I like is technically not white or red, though it contains white in its name. Does Nick happen to have any white merlot around?"
Arianna stuck her head out of the refrigerator door and said, "Gee, Lyssie, you'd think he wouldn't have it, but guess what? I like it too,"
and with that, she pulled out a bottle of Forest Glen White Merlot.
A huge smile lit up Alyssa's face as she walked over to her sister, glass in hand.
"Well, fill me up!"
"Come on hon, let's take our haul out to the living room," Nick snickered.
The four of them schlepped back to the living room, various snacks and drinks in their hands, and settled around the couches to watch the flick.
Towards the end of the movie, AJ looked over at Alyssa and found her out cold, snuggled up with the throw blanket from the back of the couch.
"Hey guys," he whispered. Arianna looked up from where her head had been buried in Nick's chest to see what AJ wanted.
"Alyssa's out, so I'm gonna carry her upstairs and put her to bed. Which room is hers?" he asked Nick.
"It's the one right next to yours J, you know, the one Brian used to use before him and Leigh got married," Nick told him.
"G'night Ayje,"Arianna yawned.
"Good night sweetheart," AJ said softly, as he wrapped his arms around Alyssa and began to walk upstairs with her.
Alyssa stirred slightly and turned to cuddle into AJ's chest as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
'She smells so nice,' AJ thought to himself. 'Like honeysuckle.'
As he came to the door of Brian's old room, now Alyssa's for her stay, he looked down at the soft womanly form in his arms.
"I wonder if she has a boyfriend. She's so beautiful and so full of life, I can't imagine her being single," he said to himself.
"But I am," Alyssa said sleepily, startling AJ into nearly dropping her, "and is there any particular reason you're carrying me?"
"You looked so serene while you were sleeping, and I didn't want to wake you up to get you to bed. I just figured I'd carry you up, lie you down, and let you sleep undisturbed," AJ explained.
"Thank you for being so sweet," Alyssa smiled. "But I am awake now, so you can put me down if you like."
"What would you say if I told you I like having you in my arms," he said softly, and lowered his lips to brush hers. He pulled her ever closer to his body, as his lips oh so gently pressed to hers. After a long moment, he reluctantly raised them from her and looked deep into her eyes, hoping she felt something and wouldn't slap him for his impertinence. He put her down on the ground, and took a tiny step back to gauge her reaction.
"I...uh...you...um..." Alyssa sputtered. She took a deep breath, let it out and tried to straighten her thoughts after the sparks that were coursing through her began to fade. "Not that I didn't enjoy it, but I think that kiss was probably inappropriate. Don't you have a girlfriend? She'd be awfully pissed if she knew you were kissing another woman!"
"Actually, no....I don't have a girlfriend," AJ said as he reached forward to caress her cheeks with his thumbs, cupping the side of her face with both hands. "She and I broke up quite a while ago."
"Oh," Alyssa said,"I'm so sorry."
"I'm not," AJ said with a smile. "Because if I did have a girlfriend, I wouldn't be able to do this," and with that he captured her lips again in a scorching kiss. Instinctively, she wrapped her arms around his waist, and leaned into the kiss. His hands left her face to curve around her shoulders. She broke the kiss first, as she leaned into his chest to catch her breath.
"Good Lord AJ," Alyssa breathed in the general direction of his spectacular pecs. She slowly let go of him, and stepped back to face him. As soon as she made eye contact with him, she began to feel weak in the knees again. His coffee colored pools of ecstasy were staring her directly in the eyes, swirling with desire. Just for her. The intense way his gaze swept over her sent shivers down her already goose bump ridden spine.
"I think maybe we should go to bed," Alyssa said.
"Oh, Alyssa, I don't even know you that well!" AJ teased. "Not that I wouldn't enjoy it, I'm sure."
"AJ, you know what I mean. Me in my room, you in yours. I've had a long day, and I'm sure I'm going to need sleep for tomorrow. Especially if I have to go talk to that Josh Barnes guy," she sighed.
Noticing the look of despair in her eyes, he stepped forward to gather her into his arms for comfort. "I'm sure it will all work out. If Jaden is still alive, and there's a good chance he is, I'm sure Josh will find him. Everything's going to be alright sweetheart," he reassured her.
"Thank you," she said softly. "And thank you for your intention of bringing me up to bed. Good night, AJ."
She turned around to open the door to the room and glided in, shutting the door behind her.
"Good Night to you too beautiful," AJ whispered, and turned to go find his own room.
