Better Than Chocolate
Chapter 1
June 11, 2000. 1:20pm
"Can I get you anything?"
Angel started and looked up. "Huh?"
" I'm gonna step out for a smoke…Do you want anything?" Her co-worker A.J.
glanced at her queerly.
…I want your strong hands to hold my waist as you put your luscious mouth on
my breast… "Um …no thanks." She shook her head and hoped she didn't say that
out loud.
"Suit yourself." A.J. stepped out to the front of their bookstore and stood
at the corner lighting his cigarette. Angel waited until he was settled
outside to sink in her chair, put her head in her hands and moan. It was a
slow day and it was going to be a long one too but at least she had A.J. to
entertain her. That name…like candy…addictive, sensuous candy.
While Angel helped a customer she kept wondering why she had fallen so hard
for A.J.? Then a voice said `Well let's see…he's intelligent, funny,
mature, charming…need I go on?'
"Yeah, I get it." She said out loud.
"What was that?" The customer asked.
Angel embarrassed said, "I mean would you like a bag?" Saved.
When there were no more people to serve she sat back down and kept
thinking…thinking… He's perfect! Her mind yelled. She was a little startled
by her inner voice but there was no doubt about it. He was every girls
dream. He had a funky rugged exterior with a heart of gold. His voice was
rough but sweet and he could always make her laugh. He loved poetry and
Shakespeare… "Oh my god I don't have a chance ." She groaned to herself.
Just then A.J. walked through the door and came behind the counter. There
wasn't much space to move so he had to squeeze by but every time he did he
would alw!ays put his hands lightly on her hips. Every time he touched her
she could feel her knees get weak and a pulsing in her panties. Angel
wanted him desperately in every way but she was afraid he didn't feel the
Same. He did flirt with her but he flirted with a lot of people. Sometimes
He would buy her a little something but maybe he was just being considerate…
he conflicting sides frustrated her and A.J. could see it. A.J. rung up a
sale and spoke without turning his head, "What's wrong? That'll be
four-fifty sir…thank you… so what is it?"
"Oh nothing." She was lying, they both knew it. "Maybe this will cheer you
up." A.J. fumbled in his baggy pockets of his even baggier pants and pulled
out a pack of Hershey's Kisses, her favorite! She squealed and jumped up
to hug him. "Thank you! When did you get these?" Meanwhile her real concern
was she wished that he gave her his sweet kisses, but this would do.
"When you weren't looking I went to the convenience store." He said
boyishly.
"I didn't see you." She remembered.
"I know, that was the point." There was an awkward silence and they looked into each others eyes.
"So girl wach'you waitin' for? Gimmie a kiss!"
Her eyes bulged open, she wished he meant what she wanted it to mean.
Angel smiled slyly and handed him a handful, "Here…let's make out." I can't
believe I just said that! She thought. It was smooth. But obvious? She
started to worry until she saw A.J. smiling.
"Baby, you are slick." Angel agreed.
