SYNOPSIS: Pearl Harbor follows a similar path seen in the movie "Titanic." The central theme is an epic love story set in the days when nations last made the devasting leap from peace to World War II. The story follows two daring young pilots, Rafe McCawley and Danny Walker, who grew up like brothers and first learned to fly in the daring and dangerous aviation practice of crop dusting. As a result of their skills; they both became pilots in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Rafe falls in love with Evelyn Stewart, a beautiful and courageous nurse serving in the US Navy. Their love has only just begun to bloom when destiny and that of the world on the brink of war intervenes on December 7, 1941.
Many Japanese/Asian American organizations have been concerned, despite the film production utilizing various Japanese American consultants, about the portrayal and accuracy of the information seen on the screen. The recent anti-Asian sentiment described in the Anti-Defamation League/Committee of 100's report on racism and the "Spy Plane" incident in Mainland China provided possible evidence of continuing these views as the result of any movie such as "Pearl Harbor."
LATEST NEWS: Read how the immense publicity and predictions of great success has been severly tempered with the movie not having "legs." The second weekend decline of 50% was less than for "Mission: Impossible 2," which opened over Memorial Day last year. But the third weekend was down another 50%. Suddenly, initial predictions that the movie could gross $300 million domestically fell to $200 million or less.

President Roosevelt knew about the upcoming attack
Haruye Masaoka's family fought constantly fought racism in the US throughout Pearl Harbor and WWII. Despite having five of six sons (despite the "Sullivan" provision) fighting in WWII in the 442nd Regimental Combat team, they were forbidden to own land, become a citizen and vote during the anti-Japanese furor created by Pearl Harbor.

In October and November 1941, Curtis B. Munson, under instructions from President Roosevelt, gathered information on the loyalty of Japanese Americans and in his final report said that the first-generation Issei were "quite fearful of being put in a concentration camp."
On Dec. 30, 1943, Atty. Gen. Biddle told Roosevelt that "the present procedure of keeping loyal American citizens in concentration camps on the basis of race for longer than is absolutely necessary is dangerous and repugnant to the principles of our Government. It is also necessary to act now so that the agitation against these citizens does not continue after the war."
On Movember 21, 1944, Roosevelt said in a press conference soon after his reelection that ". . . it is felt by a great many lawyers that under the Constitution they can't be kept locked up in concentration camps."
On Facts: Not one act of sabotage or espionage was ever committed by Japanese Americans who were removed from the West Coast and had plenty of opportunity months after the attack, and that Japanese Americans in Hawaii were never detained because they were too essential and too busy rebuilding the American Navy, making possible Doolittle's raid.
PEARL HARBOR - PORN-STYLE?!?!
Disney execs are battling to keep the porn version of the flick - which uses unknown Asian and Caucasian actors in the X-rated scenes - from circulating in Asia, where it was discovered.
Disney, a clean-cut company, is utterly furious that footage from a patriotic, wholesome film is being used this way. A Disney spokeswoman confirmed that the company is looking into the matter.

the movie's heavily marketing as a love story and becoming the Disney
Japanese distributor's most lucrative premier and the nation's sixth most successful start for any film - behind Steven Spielberg's A.I., Mission Impossible II, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and "Independence Day.
The movie marketed to three distinct groups--young Japanese women, their boyfriends and senior citizens who lived through the war years.
In addition, there were changes to the script. Japanese executives read the script early and made suggestions aimed at removing any stereotypical depictions of Japan. They also shot their own trailer to play up the romance theme and changed several lines to avoid offending Japanese viewers.
