A trip to Qui Nhon - Van
My one hour Vietnam airline flight took me to Phu Cat airport, a district of Binh
Dinh central province. By car it took another 45 minutes to get the centre of Qui Nhon city, the city with a long side of
seashore. Our first impression was the sight of mountains in the distance from the center of the city. The combination of
ocean and mountain paint a perfect picture of nature.
Our hotel here is also good but reasonable priced. We chose a standard room with
the price 350.000 (dong) a day in the 3 stars Hoang Yen seaside hotel, with the balcony looking out over the ocean. The first
thing we did after checking in was to go along the beach outside the hotel. It’s peaceful, watching the waves ripple
across the deep blue sea surface and enjoyable having the sea-breeze mixed with the fresh on shore air wash over you in this
clean atmosphere.
All of us seem to be so small in relation to the infinite universe and we feel peaceful
and relaxed, with neither the pressure of working nor worries of daily life. There is only us and nature. As I walked along
I came across rounded stones scattered along the beach that looked like eggs so it is called Eggs beach.
Then we stopped by the grave of Han Mac Tu, a famous and talented young poet of Vietnam
during the 1940s. It has a nice view of the sea from his tomb on the hill. Going down the hill, we found a place for lunch.
Fish noodle soup is the typical food here. It is so popular that you can have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s
good and very cheap, just around 15.000vnd (90cents) for one bowl. Besides, seafood is the priority of choice for tourists
here, such as shrimp, fish, squid, crab, claim, nail, oyster, etc…
We saved the whole next day for city tour with the first place we visited was Cham
tower, reflecting the heritage of Cham. Then we rowed a small boat against the current up to the narrow stream through the
primeval forest, a place called Ham Ho that is 30km a way the Qui Nhon city. On the way upstream, it seemed as if we were
in the Amazon jungle with the cliffs and forest trees along 2 side of the stream intermixed with the sound of cicada. Out
of the current, a beautiful landscape appeared in front of us, we all were charmed with the sightseeing here and everybody
took a lot of photos. The mountains, trees and the flat water surface acting like a mirror made for wonderful nature photos.
There are also some cottages on the edge of mountain for visitors’ who are interested in camping. I’m sure that
you will be impressed by these sights as I was.
Evening was coming on so we headed straight to the Thi Nai Bridge, the longest bridge
in Vietnam spanning across the ocean to the island off shore. Standing on it, we could see the whole Qui Nhon city covered
by the last sunbeams of the day, far away.
It can said that QuiNhon is not in a good position to attract tourists, because it
is between Nha Trang and Da Nang. So, most of tourist chooses these two places for travel. But Qui Nhon has typical, unspoiled
Vietnamese character, a peaceful land with a nice beach, good food, clean and fresh nature that is unspoiled, you can earn
the interesting moments for your trip as I did.
