The New Tale Spins

Volume VI-I

January 2002

Sept. 15th:

Salem and Marblehead:  You will learn about the glory days of the Maritime trade, see the beautiful Samuel McIntyre architecture.  We will visit the Phillips House which will give you an inside look at life in Salem.  We will also visit the greatly expanded Peabody-Essex Museum with its wonderful exhibits on Whaling and so much more of the life on the east coast of the 1600's and beyond.  Lunch is on your own today at the famous Pickering Wharf; just across the way, with all its variety of foods and shops.

COST: $40.00 Per person.
Departure 8:30 am   Return approx. 2 pm

The end of this relatively easy day brings us to our traditional Sunday evening GALA BANQUET with music for dancing.

COST: $50
Per person.

We are very happy to announce that we have again been able to book the Middlesex County Volunteer Fifes and Drums to perform our Presentation-of the-Colors ceremony and join us for dinner as they did in '96.  Anyone who was there knows that it is an impressive, moving ceremony.  They are a very special, patriotic young group of musicians who organized in 1982 to educate and carry on the traditions of the colonies.

Sept. 16:

Departure from the hotel, for most of us, will be on Monday morning.  Remember that the hotel has agreed to the rate of $109 + tax, 3 days before and 3 days after, in case you wish to extend your stay.

Assorted items:

We are in the process of making final arrangements with the hotel for the "minor" details which affect all of our lives.  We hope to have our continental breakfast available, for anyone who wishes to participate, in the Ready Room, each morning.

I'm afraid that the laws of Massachusetts have not changed and we can not have uncontrolled liquor in the public rooms at any time.  You are free to have anything you choose in your own room.  The bar is open during most of the day, your expense, of course...  There will be a cash bar, with bartenders, at the banquet reception.

We are researching golf courses hoping to be able to have our traditional match.  Most seem to want a very large non-refundable deposit to reserve a block of time.  If this persists, we will not have the match as September weather in New England is very unpredictable, as many of you may remember from our last sojourn!

Sign-up forms and all necessary information will be sent out about the beginning of May.

Look for it!

Until then, Friendship, What would we all do without it!

Sincerely,
Louise Thoman, Editor
