Welcome to Purple Project! This page is devoted to a very special 1970 VW Bug. We will be taking you through our resto-custom make-over to this Bug. Enjoy!

1st August, 2003
Before photos of the 1970 Beetle.

 30th August 2003
The lights, handles etc are removed.
And the paint removed - there is 5 layers of paint on this Bug! So the first layer of white paint is scraped off using razor blades and scrapers.
The rest of the paint is mostly sanded by machine and the edges and interior by hand with sand paper.

Interior:
Dash is scraped and sanded smooth.
Doors sanded.

 6th September, 2003
Fenders removed.
Her body is completely sanded back to bare metal.

 30th September, 2003
She's had some bogging and more sanding - sanding never ends until your in the paint booth!

 10th October, 2003
She's had some more sanding over her whole body; just to get her to be perfectly smooth, ready for primer [sander & 100gritt used]. The guards have been sanded also.
- NB. new sander broke, so back to the old one; goes to show that the old may be better and more reliable then the new! [like the old Bug being a whole lot better then the New Beetle!]
Repairs/bog is happening. And now she's in the process of getting a few coats of primer over her body....then sanding :-) [hand sanded with 320gritt on primer]

 4th November, 2003
Bug just before being painted.... she's all ready to go in the booth next door and get coated in Phantom Purple (Ford Falcon)... And in the left pic is Greame, the pro painter and panel beater.

 5th November, 2003
EXCITING!!
Bug is painted!!! She comes out of the booth and back to VW Country ready to be stripped of paper and masking tape and put back together :-)
[Your monitor screen may show her to look blue in colour, but she looks PURPLE bonnet-to-face!! ]

 8th November, 2003
SHE'S TOGETHER!!! Windows in, seals in, bonnet on, engine lid on, all lights on and spoiler on!! :-) Just the chrome strips and a few little things left to put on for the exterior. [for now...]
As you may be able to see in the photo on the far right, below, the dash is painted black but there is plenty more work to do in there!
There was a bit of rust on the floor pan which today we slathered some por15 rust converter on. The interior needs alot of work, new carpet, roof lining, seat covers, radio/stereo system...etc. But all in time...
This baby isn't half done yet! I've only just begun :-)
I'll keep you up to date with more photos and notes as progress comes :-)

Got some mag wheels painted using 'Phantom', the same colour as the body.

Some before shots of her interior! Just before she goes in for a complete re-upolstery job! :-)

 16th December, 2003
She's back from the upolstery shop!
Some new carpet and roof lining. The upolstery guy couldn't get stock roof lining material, so grey velour has been used instead - which does give her a more 'show' look.

 15th January, 2004
This little Beetle is looking quite good... The glove box caught my eye though, a bit ugly looking, so I decided to spruce it up with a bit of glossy red paint! :-) Before and after photos are below...

What I promised, here it is... the 'Inferno' seat covers...
Red Sperlings on the back and Inferno flamin on the front seats!

 18th February, 2004
Well... as you can see from the following photos... that something did jump in before the rego sticker did!
The Whale Tail was found at VW Country, out the back. It was sanded back and given some TLC. Then it was served a paint job [same paint as body] by Greame. I headed down to the local Security Door shop and grabed a screen [not shown in the photo] to stick in the vent hole in the top, which is in the process of getting stuck in the Tail.

 24th February, 2004
The gearbox was giving me a hard time on the road - top gear was jumping out - so the box had to be stipped down and fixed... meanwhile, the engine comes out with it so it can have a paint job done!
Fan housing and plates are spray painted purple. Gearbox housings sprayed black.
The gearbox had some major problems, top gear was beyond worn, a throw-away, and was replaced by a second hand one that wasn't in too bad condition. All gears had a bit of free-play so they had to be adjusted.
Engine & gearbox back in the Bug and then test drive time! :-) You got to test top gear don't you!? She goes real well! :-) Before & after photos below...

 26th of February 2004!
Photos of the Bug with its Whale Tail on!
Besides the right bracket being broken, it fits just fine! A bit of Resin and hopfully she'll be right :-)

Jezi at Fairfield VW National :-)

~~~~ Update ~~~
I attatched a Doring Fuel Cat for the unleaded conversion. Gave her an oil change & service. I'm getting Jezi's distributer buffed & a chrome dist clamp to match. Slowly I'll brighten up 1 part of her at a time...
~~~ Up coming events in Jezi's life ~~~
I'm hoping to get a radio/cd/mega-watt sound system for Jezi next! :-) other than that, a supercharger, Porche fan housing, bucket seats.... under chassis neons are going on very soon - she'll be glowing RED from down under!

THIS WEB PAGE IS A REMINDER OF THE JEZI PROJECT.
DUE TO AN ACCIDENT, JEZI IS NO LONGER ALIVE -- THE JEZI PROJECT HAS NOW ENDED AND SHE WILL NOT BE ON THE ROAD AGAIN. DAMAGE TOO HER CHASSIS AND BODY ARE BEYOND REPAIR, FOR SHE WOULD NOT SURVIVE SURGERY AS HER BODY IS TOO FRAGILE.

THANK YOU FOR VIEWING THIS PAGE.

The 1970 Beetle is now in pieces and will become part of other Beetles.

UPDATE: 17th Februrary 2005
Jezi's heart, her engine, has now hooked up to a 1973 Super Beetle.
She runs well with her new body.
