From Andre' Mes - | |
Concluding with the final chapter of the Courtney of Africa, Smith focuses on the grandchildren of Centaine using the communist themes that rippled throughout the world in the sixties. Colonial Africa was at its breaking point and revolution seemed to be the only answer for many countries to rid themselves of the shackles created by their 'mother' countries. Sweeping over eight years, Smith crams his familiar trademarks into every page resulting in another epic that oozes sex, violence, politics and adventure. Maybe not the best Courtney story, but certainly one of his better political statements about communism and its horrific effect on third world Africa. HINT: Read this BEFORE A TIME TO DIE as the latter book deals with Sean Courtney, Jr in his later years and seems out of place in the Courtney saga. Reading it in chronological order gives GOLDEN FOX more continuity to the whole Courtneys of Africa. | |
We are caught up in a broad historical sweep, nothing less than the destabilization of an entire continent...hot and steamy territory where action is never further than the turn of a page. - Independent |
