Cold Winds

         SILENCE BORNE ON COLD WINDS

Silence born on cold winds, the frozen air strong enough to hold, the silence born from the very, very old.

The earth is covered in pure white to remind us all of the Indian might, of spirit, of heart, a strength in which is always a part, of us as a people, the first of these lands, who lived close to nature and were strong family clans.

Who loved and laughed and hated and cried, who felt such sorrow but always strong pride for our Creator, who gave to us all, life, this beautiful earth and entrusted our people with the care of these lands, this must make us humble, for the sacredness of his plan. For us as a people - keeper of these lands.

The time is here. It is now we must reach out - loud - shout - Aho! Roar - like the mighty buffalo - grow tall and strong as the mighty corn, be surrounded by strong smoke from the sacred tobacco, strong spirits of hope, the blessings of the very, very old.

Silence born on cold winds, the hunger in the bellies of the young within, strong yearnings for what we need to survive this life we are in. It is a strength, the will and hope, of determination for us to provide hope for the seventh generation, the next to come, we are the people, we are the ones, silence born from the very, very old.

We know who we are, we know that without doubt, we know the driving forces that keep us devout, to the never ending path, that lies always before, to be our destiny but always those of who lived before, the very very old, the ancients ones, the blood within our veins, we the people, who lived close to nature and were strong family clans.

These cold winds that blow, the hurt we may now know, the hard roes we hoe, we the people, will walk forward, never back. We will return to that humility and gratitude for the sacred trust, that has been given to us, and stand before the greatest chief of all, the one true Great Spirit, we the people know, the blessings of the very, very old.
