We care for wildlife

What is WIRES?

WIRES (
Wildlife Information And Rescue Service) is the first full time coordinated network established to assist orphaned, injured and sick native animals. It is a voluntary, non-profit organization operating under a license issued by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. WIRES was established in 1983 and therefore offers a large support network with representatives from a wide variety of interests and professions, including veterinarians, conservationists, foster carers and animal rescuers. All WIRES members are trained in animal care and handling via a course which has been approved by the National Parks and Wildlife Services. In addition to this training, WIRES members undergo on going training and have access to specialists.

The aims of WIRES are:

* To rescue and rehabilitate injured, sick orphaned or misplaced native animals through a network of trained volunteers, rescuers, foster carers and veterinarians.
* To use rehabilitation methods that will allow the animal to fend for itself in the wild.
* To release rehabilitated animals back to the wild.
* To promote wildlife protection.
* To provide information to the public.
