We care for wildlife

Candidiasis (thrush):
Affecting:

  • All birds.
Symptoms:
  • Whitish deposits around the beak and in the crop.
  • Dirty feathers around beak (caused from vomiting).

It is best to seek advice from your vet for this condition. Hand raised birds also develop this illness due from poor conditions (food too cold, thick etc.). Nilstat can be used as a preventative.

Parasites and Worms:
Affecting:
  • All birds.
Symptoms of parasites:
  • Stratching.
  • Pulling out feathers.
  • You can sometimes see the parasites crawling through the birds feathers.
Symptoms of worms:
  • Weight loss.
  • Lethargy.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Eating more than usual.

Parasites can be eliminated with dusting powders and/or sprays. Worms can be eliminated by worming medications.

Concussion:
Affecting:
  • All birds.
Symptoms:
  • Swelling.
  • Drooped wings.
  • Head tilted to the side.
  • Lack of appetite.
  • Feet curled up.
  • Unable to stand.

Although not a disease, many birds that come into care are victims of collision (from windows to motor vehicles). The best thing to do is to see a vet immediately, as the bird may have broken bones.
