When the Vacations Over

Jean Luc Picard sat at his desk absently scanning routine reports and sipping som tea, when a chime interupted the process, "Come," he called, somewhat relieved for the interuption.

"Captain, may I speak with you?" Deanna asked almost cautiously.

"Of course Counselor, what can I do for you?"

Deanna was not sure how to begin. She knew this was going to be difficult, but now that she was here, and could sense the Captain's underlying lonliness, difficult was easy compared to how it would really be.

"Sir, I just received a private sub-space message from Beverly..." she began.

Curiosity piqued, Captain Picard interupted "Really. How is her leave going? I hope she's having a good time."

This is going to be hard. "Uh.. yes Sir, but that's not what she called to talk to me about." Deanna halted, trying to think of a way to continue.

Jean Luc's heart rate increased as he sensed a problem with the couselors' pause, "Deanna, is there something wrong? Is Dr. Crusher all right?"

The captains thoughts raced as he thought about his chief CMO. She had been on leave for a week now, and even though he wouldn't admit it openly, he missed her terribly.

"Yes, Sir. Beverly is not ill. Captain, this is very difficult for me. Beverly is my friend, and I don't want to betray that, but I think you should know before you hear about it officially. Beverly is resigning from Star Fleet, and is engaged to be married."

There, she said it. She didn't need to look at the captain to know how it affected him. She felt the wave of emotions coming from him, shock, hurt, disappointment... then finally anger.

"Thank You Counselor. If that is all?" Jean Luc tried to look busy with some reports, but his mind was raging.

"Captain, if you would like to talk about..." Deanna began, but was quickly cut off.

"That is quite all right Counselor. You're dismissed." Captain Picard said curtly. He didn't want to talk, didn't want to think, he just wanted to be left alone. Alone...

Jean Luc Picard was drinking a Scotch, and pacing his room. What the hell was Beverly doing? She goes on leave, reluctantly. In fact, he almost had to order her to go. And while on some god forsaken pleasure planet, she meets someone, gets engaged, and decides to leave Star Fleet. Well, he was going to get to the bottom of it. Several other people from the ship were on leave, and thay had all taken one of the Enterprise's shuttles to Risa. The shuttle was due back tommorrow, and there were a few things he wanted to "discuss" with his Chief Medical Officer.

Jean Luc finished his drink quickly, and went to pour another. Why was he so upset? Beverly was his friend, but that was it. And if she wanted to get married, it was none of his business. Damn her! I won't let her do this to me. Not again. Not this time.

Captain Picard woke up with a slight headache. He drank too much last night. He should have known that it wouldn't help, but at least he was able to forget for a little while. He looked at the chrono, damn, he only had 15 minutes to get ready to meet the shuttle. He showered and dressed quickly, and left to go to the shuttle bay.

As he hurried through the Enterprises corridors, he ran through just how he was going to greet his CMO. A sly grin crossed his face as he thought of putting his hands around her throat, but that thought passed quickly. He had to maintain control, even though he was so pissed at her he could...

That thought was interupted as he was joined by Deanna. He quickly put up a mental shield to ward off any attempts by the empathic couselor to "talk" to him.

Deanna sensed the captain's anger when she first saw him, but then it was quickly squelched. The captain was very good at hiding his feelings. She hoped Beverly was prepared.

"Hello Captain, How are you feeling today?" She asked.

"I'm fine Counselor. Is the shuttle on schedule?" he asked, his face devoid of any apparent emotion.

"Yes, Sir. They should be entering the hangar bay as we speak," she finished just as they entered the bay doors.

Her information correct, they entered just as the shuttle was powering down. The shuttle doors opened, and the passnegers started to disembark. There was a flash of red hair in the doorway, that soon revealed Dr. Beverly Crusher.

Dr. Crusher looked over and waved to Deanna, but froze as soon as she saw the Captain. Damn! I didn't think he would be here. She looked more carefully at the Captain, and noticed the tension in his features. She told him! Deanna told the Captain .What am going to do now? Walk over there, and act like nothing has happened? Beverly hefted her bag, and slowly approached her commanding officer.

"Hello Deanna, Captain" that was safe enough Beverly thought.

"Dr. Crusher. I hope your leave was...relaxing." So she wants to play it dumb. That's fine with me. Two can play that game.

"You look wonderful Beverly. You must have lunch with me today, and tell me everything," Deanna said in an effort to break the dangerous contact that was between the Captain and the Doctor. Deanna was starting to get worried.

"Sure Deanna. I'll see you at noon. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to drop my stuff off at my quarters, and get to sick bay,"she said as she tried to make her escape through the hangar doors.

"I'll accompany you Doctor," the Captain said.

"That's OK. I can manage Jean Luc."

"I insist." And with that they disappeared out the doors.

"Uh Oh," muttered Deanna.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 The two walked without talking all the way to Beverly's quarters. The tension was almost unbearable.
Why doesn't he say anything, thought Beverly. I know he has to know.
As they entered her quarters, Beverly was unprepared for the Captain's outburst as soon as the doors were closed.
"What the hell is this I hear about you getting engaged, and leaving Star Fleet? Were you just going to surprise me?" Jean Luc said through clenched teeth. He had been holding back all the way here, but he couldn't keep his anger at bay any more.
"Deanna told you..." she began.
"Yes, god dammit, and it should have been you. I thought we were friends." He interupted her.
"We are friends Jean Luc, but..."
He interupted her again, "And just how could you meet someone, fall in love, and get engaged all in one week. For God's sake Beverly, you don't even know the man!"
 "That's it! How dare you! You don't even give me a chance to finish a sentence. And what do you know about it? Nothing! And since you won't give me two seconds to say a word, you can get the hell out. My resignation will be on your desk in the morning. And as soon as my replacement is here, I'm leaving." She went to the door, and waited for him to leave.
Jean Luc Picard looked hard at his CMO, "Fine. If that's the way you want it." And with that said, he left her quarters.
As the doors closed shut on his departure, Beverly slumped against the wall and cried.
Beverly entered ten forward, and spied Deanna at a corner table. She walked over and seated herself, "Sorry I'm late. I had alot to do this morning."
"That's OK." Deanna could sense her friends' anger. She knew some of that anger was for her, but the majority of it was directed at the Captain. "Beverly, let me start out by saying I'm sorry. But telling the Captain was the right thing for me to do. I thought you were sending you resignation sub space, and I wanted him to hear it from a friend first."
Beverly's shoulders sagged a little, "I know. I decided to tell him in person. It's not your fault Deanna. He just makes me so mad... What gives him the right to judge my decisions. What am I supposed to do, remain celibate and lonely the rest of my life. He surely hasn't been."
Deanna sighed inwardly, these two were never going to realize they belonged together. Maybe it was just as well that Beverly found someone to be happy with. And although she would miss her friend when she left, at least the Captain would be free to move on with his life also.
"I guess your right Beverly. Now, I want details..." she grinned wickedly at her friend.
The captain sat in his ready room, anger still coursed through his body. He couldn't seem to let go of it. That woman! She always brought out the worst emotions in him, but no more. Soon she will be gone. But at that thought the anger was replaced by a profound sadness. He decided to act.
"Picard to Crusher"
"Crusher Here"
"Doctor, see me my ready room as soon as possible. Picard out."
A few minutes later, Dr. Crusher entered his ready room, "You wanted to see me Captain?" she asked.
"Beverly, I'm sorry about my behaviour earlier. Your right. I didn't give you a chance to explain. Can I make it up to you over dinner?" he smiled at her.
"Of course Jean Luc. I accept your apology, and your invitation." she returned his smile.
"1900, my quarters?" He asked.
"Sounds great. See you then. Oh, by the way, I've missed you, Jean Luc."
I'll just bet you have, he thought before he replied, "I've missed you too Beverly".
Jean Luc smiled as she left. His plan in motion.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Jean Luc Picard looked around his quarters to make sure everthing was in place. He quickly downed another drink before Beverly's arrival. At 1900, the chime sounded and he opened the door to reveal the CMO. His heart raced a little at the site of her, beautiful as always. She was wearing a casual floral dress which revealed some cleavage and leg, but not too much.

Beverly's gaze lingered on the Captain. She always liked it when he wore the gray silk shirt cut way down the front. Her heart jumped a little as he took her hands, and leaned forward to place a kiss on her cheek. As he withdrew she smelled the alcohol on his breath.

"Would you like some wine Beverly? I've opened a bottle of the 47',' he released her hands, and crossed to the table.

"That sounds good to me."

He poured a glass for each of them, and crossed over to the couch to hand a glass to her. Then, instead of seating himself in his customary position on the chair, he sat next to her on the couch.

He looked at her over his glass as he drank. Beverly shifted under his gaze, always a bit unconfortable when his hazel eyes were on her for any length of time. They always seemed to be able to look right through her.

"I'm sorry, Jean Luc."

"For what?" He was somewhat perplexed by her apology.

"For not telling you about my plans, for not telling you about.."

Waving off her reponse, "It's not necessary Beverly. The reason no longer exists. Shall we eat?" He rose quickly, and held out his hand for her.

"Yes, I'm starved." She rose and took his hand.

They crossed to the table, where he seated her and then himself. They ate a quiet dinner, producing small talk between bites. They finished off the bottle of wine during dinner, and decided to open a second one.

Seated again on the couch, Beverly started to notice the effect of the evenings alcohol consumption. She wasn't drunk, but she wasn't exactly sober either.

"Well, I suppose you want to know all about what happened on my vacation." Beverly started off, then quickly took a gulp o fwine to help her continue.

"No, I don't. I said it doesn't matter anymore. Your back here now, and that's all that counts," Jean Luc said as he laid a heavy hand on Beverly's knee.

Beverly was confused at his response, and was valiantly trying to ignore the warm pulse that rose from the spot where he had his hand on her body.

"Jean Luc, I won't be here for that much longer. I'm sure it will ony take a short while before a replacement is sent."

"There won't be a replacement. Your staying here, Beverly. I won't let you leave." The last part was said quietly.

"You really don't have a choice Jean Luc. Now if you'll excuse me," she got up to go, but Jean Luc came right behind.

"What makes you think I'm going to let another man have you. You're not going to get away with it again that easily," he grabbed her wrist, and spun her round into his arms. He kissed her vicously, forcing her mouth open with his tongue.

She pushed him away with all her strength, and turned to go through the doors, but they wouldn't open. "Open the doors, JeanLuc."

Now she was getting mad.

He advanced on her, and she backed into the door. "I've secured the doors, you can't get out. I told you I'm not letting you go, Beverly. I mean it."

She slapped him across the face, hard. She went to slap him again, but he grabbed her arm. He pushed her back against the wall, and kissed her again. He held her tightly to his body as she struggled to free herself from him.

"Quit fighting! I know you want me. Just as much as I want you. You think I can't feel it everytime we touch, everytime we look at each other," he said to her.

She felt his hot breath on her neck as he said this. And all she could think was she wanted him more than she had ever wanted anyone in her life, but if he thought he could just manhandle her in his quarters, he was mistaken. With that, she made a quick move, and put him on the floor.

"I can see your not going to make this easy," he said as he picked himself off the floor.

"Jean Luc, you're drunk. Now, let me out of here." She said with her hands on her hips.

 "I've never been more sober in my life. And I'm not letting you out til I'm finished with you, and I'll never be finished with you."

Beverly tried to evade him as he grabbed for her, but he was too fast. He swept her up into his arms, and carried her to his bedroom.

"Put me down this instant, Jean Luc!" she screamed indignantly.

"As you wish." With that he dropped her onto his bed.

Before she could sit up, Jean Luc covered her body and her mouth with his own. At first kissing her agressively, but then, sensing a change in Beverly, he eased off a bit and looked into her eyes. She looked up at him, her face flushed and lips full. Jean Luc then realized that she was extremely excited. He eased his mouth down again, and kissed her softly. At her urging, he kissed her deeper, her arms circling around his back.

Jean Luc trailed passionate kisses down Beverly's neck, as his hands massaged her breasts. Beverly sighed as he gently bit her nipples through the fabric of her dress. He undid the front buttons on her dress so he would have access to her flesh. As he licked her nipples, his hand slowly made its way under her dress and up to her panites. He slipped his hand past that obstacle, and slowly stroked the wet folds underneath.

Beverly slowly moved herself against Jean Luc's hand. The sensations were unlike anything she had ever known. All rational thought slipped from her mind, as she concentrated on the experience of his hand moving inside her.

Sensing her climax coming, Jean Luc withdrew his hand.

She looked up at him, her eyes hazy with desire, "I want you JeanLuc."

Needing no further encouragement, he took his clothes off and hers. Beverly was surprised at the size of the captain. Not that she hadn't seen him naked before, but she had never seen him in quite this state before. She grasped him in her hands and slowly stroked. He responded with a moan. Moving forward she slowly took him into her mouth. She did her best to engulf the whole thing, but it was too big. So she worked her mouth up and down in deliberate strokes. She stopped when he was close to the edge.

He pushed her back on the bed, and spread her legs. He slowly lowered himself, and entered her. She gasped with delight as he stretched her wide. He started to slowly pump himself in and out of her warm depths. The urgency in both their bodies rose with each powerful thrust. He could feel Beverly tighten up as an orgasm racked her body. The rythmic tightening of her muscles caused him to achieve his own relief.

Jean Luc collapsed on top Beverly, exhausted. After a few minutes he slid off, and brought the blanket up as she curled into his arms.

Looking down at the woman in his arms he said, "I should have carried you into my bedroom a long time ago."

"Yes, you should have," she said sleepily.

"Now, what was it you wanted to tell me about your vacation?" he asked her.

"It's not important now."
