Relationships

Fox Mulder and Dana Scully

Mulder and Scully are the core of the show. There relationship, whether partnership, friendship or romantic, has always played an important role on the show. They have that kind of love that can stand every test and challenge placed on it.

From the first moment they met down in the basement in the "Pilot," we knew that their relationship would go beyond just being partners. They have come a long way from when we first met them, Mulder didn't trust Scully and Scully didn't believe a word that came out of Mulder's mouth. Now, Mulder trusts Scully with his life and everything else, and Scully has learned to believe in Mulder, or at least not out right dismiss everything he says.

They had a close friendship in the earlier seasons, with playful flirting mixed with a seriousness about them. Then, their relationship became more closer until they finally got it together. You can't tell a lot of Mulder and Scully fans that the pair didn't have sex in "All Things."

Now, at the end of the 7th season, we find out that Scully is pregnent but Mulder has been abducted by aliens. Scully gives birth in the 8th season finale "Exsistence" with the assistance of Agent Reyes. She has a baby boy, who she names William after Mulder's alleged father. Turns out Bill Mulder was not Fox's dad but C.G.B. Spender is (I know, weird). Also, William is the name of Scully's dad, so it could be for either one really.

Scully forced Mulder to leave when they found out that his life was indanger, refer to "Nothing Important Happened Together Parts 1 and 2." Scully tries to protect William, but he is kidnapped a couple of times. When Jeffrey Spender shows up and helps "cure" William, Scully decides to give him up, saying she doesn't want her son to grow up like this. I don't know how Mulder really took this news but he says he knows and understands.

In the series finale, Mulder and Scully are reunited, They even share a nice long kiss that I bet all Mulder and Scully fans just loved. Mulder is on trial for murder and Scully must help him be proved innocent. When he's convicted and sentenced to death, she, along with Skinner, Doggett, Reyes, and even Kresh, help break him out. From there, they go to New Mexico where they met CSM, who tells Scully that the date has been set, the date for colonization that is. Mulder had already found this at the government facitly that he broke into at the beginning of the ep.

Mulder and Scully are last seen cuddling together, unware of what the future holds but they know that at least they have each other.

John Doggett and Monice Reyes

We met Doggett in the first episode of the 8th season. He's the new agent assigned to the x-files. He's a non-believer who thinks Mulder hasn't be abducted but is hiding or something like that. We met Monica is the episode "This Is Not Happening" as a friend of Doggett's. He's called her in because he believes the Mulder is part of a UFO cult and Monica is a expert in satantic and ritual abuse cases. She is a sort of believer. She says she like to keep an open mind.

Doggett and Reyes met in NYC on a kidnapping and murder case that involed Luke Doggett, John's son. They apprently became friends from this event and kept in touch. There might be something more that they're not telling us about there relationship before they joined the x-files. Whatever that may be, it is quite obivious that Monica is in love with John and that he shares some of these feelings.

The two are put it charge of the x-files after Scully leaves to have William. John obiviously trusts Monica a lot, or he wouldn't have assigned her himself to the x-files.

John and Monica work well together and it's a shame that they didn't get a longer run. There's been a lot of speculation about how far they've gone. In "Hellbound," we see John at Monica's at 2am, using her phone. A lot of people have said that this implied that they had sex but that it was tastefully done and the creators didn't overdo.

For a sort of series finale for these two, the creators gave us "Release." It was one of the better done episodes this season, with not too much about Mulder being said, thank god. Doggett gets some much needed closure on his son's death. Monica gets to help out a friend. A interesting thing, Barbara Doggett, John's ex-wife, tells Scully that he could be happy with Reyes if he would just let himself. At the end of this ep., we see John and Barbara spread Luke's ashes in the ocean and then John hugging Monica, signalling that he's ready to move on with their relationship.

The series finale "The Truth" doesn't do much of these characters. They were used just to help move the story along and make sure that it wasn't all focused on Mulder and Scully. The last time we see them, Doggett and Reyes are driving away to whose knows where. Let's hope they find some happiness.

Alex Kryeck and Marita Covarrubias

There hit men but they're in love," was how Frank Spotnitz described these two's odd relationship. Well they haven't had that much screen time together but from what we have had, we can tell that these two are meant for each other.

We first met Alex Kryeck in "Sleepless" as an agent assigned to Mulder but it soon became clear that he was working for the Syndicate, and then a free agent so to speak. We were first introducded to Marita Covarrubias in "Herrenvolk" as an informat to Mulder.

We first see them as a couple in "Patient X" but there closeness leaves much to wonder. How long have these two known each other. Probably a long time, since they both joined the Syndicate I assume. Only, she betrays him and then gets affected with the black oil before being cured.

When they next met, it's in Fort Marlene where Marita is being held. Alex leaves her, refusing to forgive her for her betrayal. When they next see each other, it's Marita coming to bring Alex back to the states from where he's been in prison. An interesting to note, when they first see each other, they are mean and cruel but later on in the ep. "Requiem," they are quite in tune with each other. I take this to mean that they have made up.

We don't see Alex again until "Deadalive" where he has the cure for Mulder but wants Scully's baby dead. He next shows up in "Essence" before being shot in "Exsistence," the 8th season finale.

The next time either one of them shows up is in "The Truth," the series finale. Alex appears as a ghost to Mulder, helping him in the miltary fort and in court. Marita shows up to be a witness in Mulder's trial where Alex also appprears, prehaps even saving her life. I guess no happy ending is in sight for these star-crossed lovers.
