Other Services

Advocacy and Case Management
A variety of programs and services, each with its own rules, requirements, procedures and eligibility requirements, are available in the community for people with hearing problems. The complexity of the service delivery system can sometimes be overwhelming, confusing or even intimidating. The Constance Brown Staff can help families locate and access appropriate services.

Interpreters
Assistance to individuals or agencies in obtaining qualified interpreters for deaf people.

Assistive Devices Demonstration Center
Demonstrations of special devices - doorbells, alarm clocks, speech amplifiers, close-captioned television, telephone amplifiers and various listening devices - to help people determine whether the use of such devices will help them manage hearing-loss problems.

Screening Programs
Brief testing services to identify hearing problems.

Follow-up testing for infant hearing screening.

Informal Educational and Support Groups
Opportunities for people with serious communication problems to participate in self-help groups and special meetings and seminars.

Consultation
Assistance to other agencies, organization and professionals in understanding communication disorders and in meeting the needs of people who have hearing impairments.

Special Needs and Demonstration Projects
The Centers sometimes can help people with hearing problems by providing financial assistance for special projects not funded elsewhere in the community. The Centers also conduct or help other community organizations conduct innovative demonstration projects to improve the welfare of people with impaired hearing.
