In Matthew 24:1-34 Jesus told his followers that the Temple would be destroyed. They asked him when this was going to happen and what will be the sign of his coming and the end of the world? Jesus told them of wars, tribulations, false prophets, the desecration of the Temple, and the appearance to ALL the peoples of the Earth of the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven in power and glory and then said "I tell you solemnly, before this generation has passed away ALL THESE THINGS WILL HAVE TAKEN PLACE." (Matt. 24:34) Luke 21:5-33 repeats this story. Jesus again predicts the Son of Man arriving in a cloud with power and great glory. It also ends with Jesus telling his disciples solemnly that ALL of these things will take place before that generation had passed away. This was not the first time Jesus predicted this In Matthew 16:27-28 we read: "For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and, when he does, he will reward each one according to his behavior. I tell you solemnly, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming with his kingdom." Approximately 50 generations later, we are still waiting! Jesus summoned his twelve apostles and told them "I tell you solemnly, you will not have gone the round of the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes." (Matt. 10:23) They evidently believed him because the Epistles of the Apostles also made clear that the Early Christians believed Jesus was going to arrive soon: "Besides, you know 'THE TIME' HAS COME; you must wake up now; our salvation is even nearer than it was when we were converted. The night is almost over, it will be daylight SOON ..." (Rom. 13:11-12) "The God of peace will SOON crush Satan beneath your feet..." (Rom. 16:20) "Brothers, this is what I mean; our TIME IS GROWING SHORT. Those who have wives should live as though they had none, and those who mourn should live as though they had nothing to mourn for; those who are enjoying life should live as though there were nothing to laugh about; those whose life is buying things should live as though they had nothing of their own; and those who have to deal with the world should not become engrossed in it. I say this because THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT IS PASSING AWAY." (I Cor. 7:29-31) "Let your moderation be known unto all men. THE LORD IS AT HAND." (Phil. 4:5) "You too have to be patient; do not lose heart, because THE LORD'S COMING WILL BE SOON." (James 5:8) "THE END OF ALL THINGS IS AT HAND" (I Peter 4:7) "Children, THESE ARE THE LAST DAYS; you were told than an Antichrist must come, and now several antichrists have already appeared; we know from this that THESE ARE THE LAST DAYS." (I John 2:18) The Book of Revelation uses "soon" and "near" to describe the timing of Jesus' second coming. "This is the revelation given by God to Jesus Christ so that he could tell his servants about the THINGS WHICH ARE NOW TO TAKE PLACE VERY SOON...THE TIME IS NEAR" (Rev. 1:1,3) "You must repent, or I shall SOON come to you and attack these people" (Rev. 2:16) "SOON I SHALL BE WITH YOU..." (Rev. 3:11) "The angel said to me, 'All that you have written is sure and will come true; the Lord God who gives the spirit to the prophets has sent his angel to reveal to his servants WHAT IS SOON TO TAKE PLACE. VERY SOON NOW, I SHALL BE WITH YOU AGAIN.' (Rev. 22:6-7) "This, too, he said to me, 'Do not keep the prophecies in this book a secret, because THE TIME IS CLOSE...VERY SOON NOW, I SHALL BE WITH YOU AGAIN, bringing the reward to be given to every man according to what he deserves." (Rev. 22:10,12) "The one who guarantees these revelations repeats his promise; I shall indeed be with you SOON. Amen; come, Lord Jesus (Rev. 22:20) Needless to say, Jesus' coming was not near nor soon. Jesus and his apostles were false prophets. And if they were wrong about something as important this, what else were they wrong about?
