The Invaders#1
The Invaders -- comprised of Captain America, Namor, the Sub-Mariner, the original Human Torch, Bucky, and Toro -- find themselves in Occupied Europe in this fabulous first issue. After bickering amongst themselves and stopping a Nazi air-raid over London, the Invaders travel deep inside the Third Reich with an amnesiac young woman. Their transportation, Namor's Atlantean flagship, is attacked by what appears to be a flying battleaxe, and soon enough they find themselves face to face with the Star-Gods...
The Invaders#2
All the Invaders begin to battle the Star-Gods, with the notable exception of Captain America. He and the amnesia-prone woman from last issue floated down in a parachute after abandoning the flagship (again, last issue!). They enter a cave that -- surprise, surprise -- contains Nazis. The Germans take them captive and bring them to an underground lair, where the main villain is plotting evil. Brain Drain -- hee hee, the villain -- reveals his origin and tells the Captain of how he brain-washed the Star-Gods and the woman that Cap is with. She turns out to be a Star-God as well, and sacrifices herself and her brethren so that they couldn't be used for evil again. Brain Drain died as well.
The Invaders#3
This one's got everything! A cold-hearted Nazi foe, a political leader's life at stake, and the Invaders come to blows with themselves! When the five heroes recieve their mission to stop "U-Man" from killing Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of Great Britain, they agree to do so -- all of them but Namor, who wants to do it himself. It turns out U-Man is Atlantean, and the Prince of Atlantis wants to deal with him personally. After all the Invaders break out in a scuffle, Bucky joins Namor as they hurriedly make their way to the Prime Minister's courier ship before U-Man reaches it...
The Invaders#4
Captain America, the Human Torch, and Toro storm an Army base so they can get an airplane that's capable of getting them to Winston Churchill's ship, so that hopefully they reach him in time to save him from U-Man. They get one -- amidst a couple of pages of them forced to "fight" US Soldiers -- and soon they are off. Meanwhile, in the Atlantic Ocean, Namor comes face to face with U-Man and his Atlantean traitor-comrades. They battle -- of course -- even as Churchill's ship disappears in a gust of wind. Apparently, at the time, Marvel had a book where some villain was making things disappear and go into the past -- and such was the case here. We can only assume this was a tie-in. Anyway, U-Man get's away during the commotion and the Invaders are left with a few feuds that will someday have to be played out.
The Invaders#5
Part One! The Red Skull's only meeting with the Invaders starts off with a bang: He takes Captain America, Namor, the Human Torch, and Toro captive and hypnotizes them! Bucky escapes -- with little interest from the Nazi villain -- but that will turn out to be his downfall... Continued in Marvel Premiere#29. Read that issue guide here!
The Invaders#6
Part Three! Continued from Marvel Premiere#29. Bucky officially introduces the Liberty Legion to the nation's media, and he vows to recapture the Invaders and stop the Red Skull. Jack Frost and Blue Diamond meet up and start fighting the Sub-Mariner off the New York coast -- the Patriot and Miss America go after Captain America -- and the Whizzer and the Red Raven strike against the Human Torch and Toro. All of the Invaders escape, however; all but Toro. He's taken back by the Legion, but not before Bucky and Thin-Man notice that the Human Torch is coming right at their Radio Station abode -- ! The Invaders#7
The Human Torch saves a young woman from what appears to be a vampire. "Baron Blood" flies away vowing revenge, leaving the Torch with a bit of a mystery. He takes the woman to her home, and he finds he has quite the attraction for her. But he says nothing for he's an android, and he doesn't think he deserves a real human like her. As it turns out the woman lives in Falsworth Manor with her father, Lord Falsworth. They invite the Invaders for dinner and Lord Falsworth tells them about his exploits as the costumed hero "Union Jack" during World War I. Baron Blood was his arch enemy in those days -- and now that the vampire's back, the Invaders vow to stop him once and for all.
The Invaders#8
John Falsworth, Lord Falsworth's cousin who has just returned from abroad, is introduced. In an intriguing subplot, John turns out to be Baron Blood -- this arc's main villain -- who will stop at nothing by killing the Lord Falsworth. He sets traps all over London, and the Invaders fall for them... until the end, when all five of them are trapped in a net and at his mercy! When all seems lost, however, Union Jack arrives to save them -- even though he must be over 50! In a desperate fight with Baron Blood, Jack manages to win by using silver dust. The Baron again escapes, and Union Jack is granted Invader membership.
