# The Kop was named after Spion Kop, a hill in South Africa which was the scene of a famous Boer War battle in which many Liverpudlians fought.

# It has been well chronicled that Liverpool almost began by accident when Everton pulled out of a rental deal with the owner of Anfield but after such an unusual start, the club quickly became a force to be reckoned with in English football. In their first season in League football they were unbeaten and won promotion at the first attempt. It was not until the third game of the following season when Aston Villa beat them that they suffered the first League defeat of their career. Records have been broken and broken again since those days with highlights such as European glory and low times like being knocked out of the FA Cup by non-League Worcester City in 1959. Modern Liverpool owes its high profile to Bill Shankly who became manager when the rot appeared to have set in at the club in the late 1950s. He not only breathed life back into the football club but ignited a flame in the whole city that has been burning vibrantly ever since.

# Liverpool legends are: Ian St. John (Ace goalscorer for club and country), Ian Callaghan (850 appearances in 19 seasons at Anfield), Kenny Dalglish (Most-capped Scotland international), Bob Paisley (Player and later the club`s most successful manager), Bill Shankly (manager and the biggest name in Liverpool`s history), maybe the next is Fowler, Owen & Gerard Houllier.
