Five Star Omonia
Dispatch Digenis
Omonia Nicosia achieved an easy but vital win against relegated side,
Digenis Morphou, with the German Striker, Rainer Rauffmann, once more on
fire as the Omonia Nicosia player whipped in a hat trick.
Omonia Nicosia were always the better side despite the brave efforts of
Digenis with the Nicosia club earning a penalty as early as the first
minute but Rauffmann’s penalty was saved by the Digenis keeper, Artemiou.
It was Digenis, however, who struck first as the Brazilian, Marques Do
Nascimento Clinton, broke free to hand his side the lead and ice the
Omonia Nicosia supporters. Omonia’s reaction was quick and efficient
with Rauffmann hitting back just 3-minutes later. Rauffmann was yet again
on target 4-minutes later as he made up for his earlier penalty miss by
converting another penalty that was won by Michajlovic after Sakkas
brought him down in the area. In the 22nd minute, the Digenis keeper,
Artemiou, clashed with an Omonia player, breaking his nose and having to
be replaced by the substitute keeper of Digenis, Jukviet. Kontolefteros
made it 3-1 just before the break after some good work by Michajlovic and
Kaiafas, who seems to have recovered from his serious injury.
In the second half, Omonia kept the play hitting the woodwork 2 times but
then a dreadful mistake by the Omonia Nicosia keeper, Yiallouris, allowed
Christou to pull a goal back for the refugee side. Yiotis Panagiotou
answered back for Omonia a minute after Digenis’s goal with after yet
another Michajlovic cross to hand Omonia Nicosia all 3-points in a 5-2
thumping.
