Katie Holmes plays the character Joey Potter, Dawson's best friend. Joey lives with her older sister Bessie Potter (Nina Repeta)and Bessie's son. They live across the Creek from Dawson. Joey's mother died when they were younger due to cancer. Their father was arrested 3 years ago for drug dealing. Dawson comforted Joey as he always has and will. Joey got feelings for Dawson that were more than friends. Joey and Dawson have been together and broken up many times. But one break up was because of Joey. She said that she needed to be able to do things on her own. She then got together with Jack McPhee (Kerr Smith). Jack turned out to be gay, so that relationship ended, but they still are good friends. Later in the season Mr. Potter (Gareth Williams) got paroled. The feelings were both excited, but scared for Joey. Everything worked out fine till the end. Joey and Dawson are now back together, and going good.
