1870CC

Mintage: 5,908

Type: 6e

Recommended Grade: VF30 or VF35

The 1870-CC Liberty Eagle was the first gold coin struck by the new Carson City mint. It is also the rarest date CC gold coin, more rare than the more famous 1870-CC Double Eagle.

The Carson City dates of the early 1870s circulated more heavily than any other dates of the Liberty Eagle. Low mintages, heavy circulation, plus frequent soft strikes in the center, combine to make most of the early Carson City coins very rare above EF.

There are two known varieties, with minor differences in mintmark placement.
