1877
Mintage: 817 Proof: 20
Business strikes have a weak outline to the motto scroll.
The reader may wonder why token business strikes were
produced for dates such as 1873 and 1875-77. The die
preparation was hardly worth the effort for very low
mintages. One reason was that the Mint Director did
not want to have speculation over the proof issues.
Despite the extremely low mintage, both 'rounded' and
'bulging' bun varieties exist.
