Homecoming
The Homecoming Saga is a well-written series about human beings. Human beings are now living on the planet of Harmony; they were forced to leave Earth four million years ago because of some great sin (or a collection of sins) they commited. This story constantly provokes the reader into thinking about his/her morals and makes the reader more appreciative about "family".
The Memory of Earth:
Above Harmony, the Oversoul, an artificial intelligence, orbits the planet. The Oversoul was programmed by the first colonists with one master command: to guard human kind from making the same mistakes that caused them to leave Earth four million years ago. But the Oversoul is in trouble. After four million years, the Oversoul can feel herself weakening. She is losing her abilities to control human kind. Human beings have re-discovered technology. People are starting to get killed. The Oversoul sends a vision of destruction to Wetchik. Wetchik and his sons, Elemak, Issib, Mebbekew, and Nafai take on the tast of helping the Oversoul (willingly and unwillingly). The Oversoul, who had been revered as a God by all of the planet Harmony, takes a great risk in allowing them to help her. But she is slowly weaking, and needs human hands to help her get back to Earth to be repaired by the Keeper of Earth...
The Call of Earth:
The Oversoul is weakening. She must be returned to Earth to be repaired by the Keeper of Earth. Originally able to control the very thoughts of human beings, she can no longer control the minds of the stronger people, such as Moozh. Moozh has won control of an army using forbidden technology. The Oversoul can do nothing to stop him. Moozh is on his way to take over the city of Basilica. Wetchik and his sons are powerless against him. Rasa tries to use her political power and intellect to go against him, but to no avail; Moozh is unstoppable. Nafai and Issib try their best to discover the secrets of the Oversoul, secrets that even the Oversoul herself doesn't know. In the meantime, the Oversoul sits back and watches, helpless. Human beings are rediscovering technology. If the Oversoul is not repaired, human kind may destroy each other or replay what happened on Earth four million years ago...
The Ships of Earth:
The Oversoul has lost control of most of the population. She has lost access to her memory banks, and some of her power systems are failing. Her only hope lies several light years away, on the planet Earth. But to get there, she must go against her original programming and teach forbidden technology to her select few. At the same time, war has broken out in Harmony. Moozh has taken over Basilica and has cast out Wetchik's family. The Oversoul's chosen people are led across the desert in search of Harmony's age old spaceport, the location of which is unknown even to the Oversoul. Wetchik's family must find the spaceport and get the silent, ancient spaceport running again in order to fly the interstellar ships. However, only a handful of the company have chosen their exile. The others are resentful and full of murderous rages. This complicates matters even further...
Earthfall:
The ships are working and ready to fly. The Oversoul has downloaded a complete copy of itself to the ship's main computers. Nafai now wears the Cloak of the Starmaster by the Oversoul's command. Bitter resentments have built up withing Elemak towards Nafai. Elemak's jealously of the Oversoul's favor towards Nafai has twisted his heart into a murderous rage. There is a rift in the group; one siding with Nafai, one siding with Elemak. The journey on the ships will not be a peaceful one. Two factions within the group are making secret plans to wake up during the deep sleep of the others. They hope to use the extra years to gain influence in the minds of their children and the children of the other faction. For when the ships land, there will be a fight for control of leadership, and the outcome will lie in the decisions of the grown-up children.
Earthborn:
Hundreds of years have passed since Earthfall, when Wetchik and his sons landed on Earth. Only Shedmei has survived. Shedmei wears the Cloak of the Starmaster, given to her by Nafai, who chose to live his life out on Earth. Shedmei resides in the starship Basilica, which flies above the Earth. She is woken from her hibernation chamber once in a while to make records of Wetchik's decendants and take care of her garden. Earth's three intelligent species, humans, diggers, adn angels, are trying to live with each other, but peace is hard to come by. The humans have broken up into two groups: The Nafai and the Elemaki; war is imminent between them. Throughout all these years, the Oversoul has not found who she was searching for, the Speaker of Earth. Finally, Shedmei receives a dream from the Speaker of Earth, a dream that tells her to step forth on the planet again after those hundred years and do the Keeper's bidding...
