FOLEY IS GOD!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, and there's a new WWF Champ too.

Before I even get started, you can find the full King Of The Ring Recap in what was once the KotR Preview section.

Don't say I didn't warn you. Mick Foley lost the Hell In A Cell match last night, but damn it.... he stole the show. Without a doubt, Foley took the worst bumps in WWF history. Speaking of those bumps, I've got a videos of those very bumps cortesy of this site: "Oh My God!" Wrestling Multimedia posted on the new KotR Recap Page The guy who posted it originally may put more on there for you viewing pleasure. The files are kinda big, but there's sound which is a plus.

First there was the 18 foot high fall from the top of the cage, and through the Spanish Broadcast Table (of course). Then, he was chokeslammed through the top of the cage, crashing onto the mat below. Then he got some offence. 8) He reaches under the ring and pulls out a bag. And onto the ring, he dumps out hundreds of THUMBTACKS. He tries to knock the Taker onto them, fails and gets slammed onto them. Then he gets CHOKESLAMMED onto the bed of tacks. Tombstone. 1-2-3 it was over.

No wrestling at all, just insane bumps. I don't know how ANYBODY is gonna top the bumps in this one. The WWF will have to sign New Jack from ECW or something.

Also, like I breifly mentioned above, we have a new WWF Champion: Kane. This match ended with Foley interference causing the "save" by the Undertaker. Long story short, Mankind tried to attack Austin and got a Stunner for his trouble. Then Kane got one. Austin goes for a chair as Foley comes around, and so does The Undertaker. Both take a swing at Foley's head, Foley ducks, Austin gets two chairs in the face. Austin blades... I mean bleeds. The Taker's revives the unconscious ref with Gasoline (?). Austin tries his best to make Kane bleed as well with chairshot after chairshot, but the ref sees the streaming blood on Austin's face and stops the match. Your winner and new champ: Kane. The ppv ends with Vince grinning with approval.

I almost forgot... Ken shamrock is your 1998 King Of The Ring. He beat Double J and The Rock to take the crown. All around Good matches from Shamrock, Jarrett, The Rock and Severn but I thought the lack of crowd reaction/interest really kept the matches from getting really exciting.

Once again, I'm going to put off the part 2 to the "New WWF Talent" rant from "New & Views #6" as I will be concentrating on the KotR results & pics. But, you should see it in #8.

Update: June 30, 1998.....

AUSTIN REGAINS TITLE

I just watched RAW. Austin won the title back. Ho he hum. It seems that the WWF has pulled an old WCW trick: the quick title swap. Damn, I really feel cheated. What was the point of the ppv? Kane still hates Undertaker, Undertaker still wants Austin's title, Austin is back to facing the odds set up supposedly by McMahon. I'm starting to wonder if we'll get Austin/Undertaker at In Your House: Fully Loaded and then a Kane/Austin/Undertaker three way at SummerSlam for the title. I suppose this might be the case, since Foley has gotta be out of action for a while.

Foley WAS on RAW by the way... though he didn't say a word, just had his face on tv during the backstage Kane interview. Probably because of his lost teeth and punctured lip. 8)

The WWF has begun a new "division" of sorts as well. It's called the "Brawl For It All". It's a sort of tournament to see who is the best all around fighter, whether it be by boxing, wrestling or freestyle. Matches are decided by a point system (punches & takedowns), 1 minute rounds and the ring is made to look like a boxing ring. The wrestlers wear boxing gloves too. No brackets were announced for this 16 man tourney, but so far Steve Blackman beat Marc Mero and Bradshaw beat Mark Canterbury (aka Henry Godwinn). No matches were announced for next week as well. Problem is that the "fights" just aren't that exciting. The crowd response wasn't all that positive, except when the fighters start flailing punches. Hopefully this new format will improve, I think it has some potential, but I really think that the wrestlers are quite limited in what they can actually do. Basically, all the moves were just punches and single or double leg takedowns. Kinda dull. But according to Scoops, the action is indeed real so I guess we'll see who's the best behind the gimmics.

Steve Regal finally debuted. No Dr. Death however. Regal's debut was ok I suppose... he beat Darren Drosdov rather easily, but I really felt something was lacking. He looked great, and he definitely has lost a LOT of weight. He wore his old WCW attire to the ring, and was basically just a carbon copy of his old WCW days. I hope there's a little more "oomph" to be added to his gimmic, maybe put him on the mic.

Also, Precious Paul ellering made his return.... to manage DOA. He turned on his former tag team and announced himself as DOA's manager. LOD got beat up again. 8)

And Now.... The News

Updated June 30, 1998

Now for some news (some old, some new)... plucked from various sources around the Net. I will also start giving credit where credit is due for most of these new tidbits, so if you want to read about these stories, I suggest checking out some of the great Wrestling News Sites located on my Links Page.

WWF:
  • Steve Regal debuted finally.
  • RAW crushed Nitro in the ratings with a 5.4 to a 4.1. It seems like Nitro kept its regular viewers, but RAW has been gaining some. Of course, it was the post KotR RAW with a title change on live tv. (WrestlingHeadlines.com)
  • SummerSlam '98 will have the sub-title "Highway To Hell". (Wrestling Headlines)
  • In order to build interest for Summerslam, we may begin to see the eventual heel turn for the Undertaker. I'm guessing much like how Shawn Michaels turned when he cost the Undertaker the title at last year's Summerslam. He's also been touted as being more "evil" and agressive.
  • Here's the Mick Foley Injury Update courtesy of 1Wrestling.com:

  • We just may see Shawn Michaels back on tv as soon as Survivor Series. It may not be in the ring, but perhaps as a commentator or interview segments.

    MANKIND INJURY UPDATE
Mankind was in a Pittsburgh area hospital today undergoing tests, including an MRI. Mankind suffered numerous injuries in his "Hell in the Cell" match against the Undertaker, and may need reconstructive surgery to repair damage to his mouth and jaw. During the match, Mankind lost 3 teeth, including one that went through the top of his mouth and was hanging from his nose.

    OUCH.

  • WCW
  • If you hear almost any WCW crowd chanting "GOLDBERG" over and over, its most likely a TAPED chant.
  • The reformation of the Four Horsemen is a lock, with or without Ric Flair. Without Flair, the most likely lineup right now is Benoit, Mongo, Malenko and Goldberg.
  • WCW is gearing up for a Goldberg/Giant feud. Whoah.
