How Much Boost Can I Run?

Well this is open for discussion, as I have had varying thoughts from various people. It seems that the standard car which runs on about 0.7bar or 10.6 psi can be upped to about 1.0bar ( 14.8 psi ), this level of boost should really only be run with a performance airfilfer and exhaust ( not necessarily full system ) to compliment the raise in boost, to achieve greater airflow and to loosen some more bhp from engine ( I've been told that the standard exhaust probably wouldn't last to long at that boost anyway ).Now whether the car should run on this level of boost constantly or only on high boost is a loose subject, I've also been told that a car with an airfilter and exhaust can run on 1.1 bar on high boost as long as it's not continual use

Tim at SVS says that if you have modifications such as a Trust Exhaust and Airfilter and a Profec Boost Controller then the next step is to purchase a replacement ECU board for increased fuelling which should mean the use of 1.2 bar, now apparently, according to one of his contacts in Cyprus, they supply this board to their customers and claim that you can run the car on 1.2 bar all the time!

Now after speaking to Dave at dp motorsport he's told me that someone with a car with a similar set up to mine has an additional Fuel controller and Ignition controller fitted and they are running upto 1.4 bar without any problems.

This does seem a rather high boost level as i've been told that 1.2 bar should be the higherst boost run with the standard turbo! So this may cause big bills in the future.

At this level of boost the Intercooler will really start to show its restrictions on increased engine power, but help is at hand as both Tim and Dave are looking into sourcing front-mount intercoolers for us GTiR owners in fact Dave is currently in the development process with a customers GTiR as I write this, and he has noticed a couple of weak areas and will contact me as soon as they finish the car and have some results for me to print, so worry not, as soon as it's available he'll let me know details, with most importantly....the price!
