I've had a few problems with my GTiR,first the CV boots went then 4 days ago the clutch was playing up,the pedal was really loose and the car wouldn't go in gear, the garage has found the problem, its a leaking Clutch Master Cylinder -about 120 pounds to repair, but that's nothing on what I've saved on buying the import. Lande Marche Garage is my local Nissan dealer and James there has helped me immensely, they got my Momo's 150 pounds cheaper than anyone else,a HKS Super Sequential Blow Off Valve cheaper and my TRUST airfilter cheaper, who would guess that this is the service from a main dealer to an import buyer ,if only all garages were this understanding to buyers of imports. The insurance was a nice surprise though ,the best quote from Guernsey companies was 2700 fully comp but the import garage I bought the car from,AJR Trading recommended OPi insurance who gave me a quote of 950 fully comp, superb!I was paying a little more than that for the Pug. I'm 22 and the Pug's insurance group was 14 the GTiR is 19/20 so I was very impressed. I can also recommend AJR Trading to potential buyers of import GTiR's besides excellent service from the lads who work there ,they have a huge stock of imports including 21 GTiR's when I was there. Anyway back to the garage, they also asked me to take an Almera GTi for the weekend awhile back, what a car what a motor ,obviously not as quick as the GTiR but pretty impressive, good steering response and handling and a much better looking car since its face-lift.they also asked me to test drive the 1999 200SX now thats even more impressive, but scary with the rear-wheel drive,it was comforting to get back into the 4WD GTiR. I've probably bored you enough now,I just cant wait till Tuesday to get my car back,I'm driving a 993 cc Micra -joy!
Well if you've looked at this page before it would seem that I've had this Micra for about a month but I've just not updated this page I did get my GTiR back on the Tuesday and its now running like a beast .The Master Clutch Cylinder cost 210 pounds to fit in the end and which 130 pounds was for the part. But it was worth every penny ,now I don't know if it's psychological but its seem to run a whole lot better now I don't know if I was possible loosing some response in the clutch but it does seems quicker.
I've got some advice for all you GTiR owners out there if you start to think that maybe your car isn't THAT quick then drive a Micra for a week and when you drive the GTiR for the first time you'll think that Satan is hiding under the bonnet.
Well alots happened to my GTiR, firstly I've bought some clear side repeaters which improve the looks noend and eradicate the ridiculous 'carrot' looking side repeaters that were a standard fitting.Next has came a Sparco Adjustable Strut Brace, supposedly a straight fit on, but let me tell you if it wasn't for my friend Richard and his handyman ability it would never have gone on,lets just say it took a good 90 minutes to fit.then a big step for the power of my GTiR, a call to SVS produced the decision to order a Greddy Digital Adjustable Boost Controller, a Trust Exhaust and a Speed delimiter unit(to rid the 112mph Japanese restriction). The Exhaust is on it's way from Japan, but the Boost Controller and Speed Delimiter are here and are going on tomorrow(08/04/99) so expect a report on the difference and the quality of the products this weekend.
The car with these modifications will run about 1.0bar(15psi) on high boost and maybe upto 1.2bar(17ish psi) on the overtake boost, this boost and other modifications should raise power to 270 + bhp.
Next on the list will be uprated pads and possibly an uprated clutch(if the raise in boost demands it).
An easy way to an increase in power will be a modified board on the ECU meaning more fuelling and the ability to raise boost to 1.2bar confortabally, and possibly more for the overtake boost , so this would mean about 300bhp!
