As with books, I have my favorite flicks that I watch in the middle of the night. I have odd tastes but some then again aren't some of us a little odd?

ANTONIA'S LINE (Dutch-Belgian;1995)R: Quirky, Oscar-winning tale about a feminist who returns to her village with her daughter after WWII and proceeds to teach the small-minded residents a lesson in tolerance. Willeke van Ammelrooy, Els Dottermans. Written and directed by Marleen Gorris.

ASSASSINS (1995) R: Macho actioner about a retiring hit man who discovers a young gun is aching for a showdown. Sylvester Stalone, Antonio Bandares, Julianne Moore.

Any PLANET OF THE APES movie!

SENSE AND SENSIBILITY (1995) Emma Thompson starts in and wrote the Oscar-winning screenplay for this adaptation of Jane Austin's novel about the still-single Dashwood sisters and how they cope with men, marriage and money after their father dies. Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant.

Any JOHN MALCOVICH movie I'll see at least once.

THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY (1947) Danny Kaye plays Thurber's character, a milquetoast who finds refuge in daydreams of bravery.

STORYVILLE (1992) A Congressional candidate's one-night stand leands to blackmail and murder trial. James Spader, Joanne Whalley-Kilmer, Jason Robards

THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT (1995) Wonderful story about a widowed Chief Executive whosee courtship of a lobbyist raises the ire of the press, public, and his opponent. Michael Douglas and Annette Benning. Magical!!!

OH! ANY MOVIE WITH MEL GIBSON IN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION (1994) Oscar nominated tale of confinement and the bond formed between an wrongly convicted and introverted inmate and a cynical lifer. Morgan Freeman (Oscar Nominee), Tim Robbins, Bob Gunton.

THE KILLING FIELDS (1984) Account of the friendship between Sydney Schanberg, a New York Times correspondent and his interpreter in war-torn 1970s Cambodia. Haing S. Ngor won an Oscar for his supporting role, Sam Waterston, John Malkovich, Julian Sands

EMPIRE RECORDS (1995) A record-store owner and his teen employees fight to stop the hostile takeover of the business. Anthony LaPaglia, Liv Tyler, Rory Cochrane

INDEPENDENCE DAY (1996) Incredible special effects and colorful characters abound in a story of alien spaceships attacing Earth and the heroes who thwart them. Bill Pullman, Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Brent Spiner, and too many more wonderful actors to name!

HIGHLANDER (1986) Sword and scorcery action cutting between modern day New York City and 16th century Scotland. Christoper Lambert, Sean Connery, Roxanne Hart Incredible soundrack by Queen...Freddy Mercury at his finest!

FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF (1986) Joyride around Chicago with a truant trio of high schoolers. Matthew Broderick, Mia Sara, Alan Ruck, Jennifer Grey, Jeffrey Jones.

JUST ABOUT ANYTHING WITH SEAN CONNERY IN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HEARTBURN (1986) Nora Ephron's digest of her marriage to journalist Carl Bernstein. Jack Nicholsen, Meryl Streep.

THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER (1990) Tom Clancy's thriller about a Soviet commander heading for the US coast in a missle-laden supersub. Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, Scott Glenn, James Earl Jones, Sam Neill.

A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT (1992) Robert Redford directed this tale from Norman MacLean's memoirs about two brothers - one reserved, the other a hell-raiser - angling for their father's attention. Brad Pitt, Craig Sheffer.

NINE MONTHS (1995) Slapstick story about a child psychologist who learns he is going to have a blessed event with his live-in girlfriend. Hugh Grant, Julianne Moore, Tom Arnold.

SECRETS AND LIES (1996) Comedy-Drama about a working-class British woman with some family secrets, the biggest being the half-black daughter she gave up for adoption who has found her at last. Brenda Blethyn, Marianne-Jean Baptiste
