Hadley Point

Directions: Stay on Route 3. Look for Hadley Point Road on your left. Follow Hadley point Road to the end. You will end up in a parking area at the edge of the ocean. Do not drive into the mud or soft sand. Drive only on the firm areas and park on a firm area.

Paddling Information: Hadley Point is not one of the busier areas. There is plenty of room to park, and I have never seen it crowded. If you paddle north (to your left as you come down the road), you have to be careful of the tide. It is a pleasant paddle around two small islands called the Twinnies and around Thomas Island. If you time things right, you can paddle over to Thompson Island where the National Park has a picnic area. Caution: You must be aware that when the tide goes out, you will not be able to paddle back to Hadley Point. Time your paddle to reach Thompson Island near high tide. It's no more than an hour from Hadley Point. Leave Thompson Island while there is still plenty of water.

There is no tide problem paddling south from Hadley Point. Paddling along the shore into Salisbury Cove, you'll come to an interesting granite arch. Once across or beyond Salisbury Cove, you'll come to a phenomenon known as the Ovens. There is another arch there, and cave like holes in a scenic cliff. In low tide, there is plenty of beach on which to land. In high tide, there is none, but you can paddle right next to the cliffs. Do not go up the stairs. They lead to private property.
