Places to Launch Kayaks

Below are some places where you may be able to launch your kayak to begin a trip. Things are always in a state of flux, so please let me know if you are no longer able to launch in an area which I have listed. I've tried to list the most common places to launch.

Local paddlers, let me hear your comments on the sites I have listed, and let me know if there are others which should be added to the list.

All of my directions will be from the head of the island where you cross the bridge onto Mt. Desert Island. You will be on Route 3 as you cross the bridge. You probably won't notice that you are on an island, but you'll know you're on Mt. Desert Island when you cross the short bridge with water on both sides. It will be the first time after leaving the town of Ellsworth that you see a lot of water on both sides of the road. Just after the bridge, you'll see a small information center on your right.

Click on one of the sites listed for information, directions, and pictures.
