Directions: Do not confuse Seal Cove with Seal Harbor. They are on opposite sides of the island. From Route 3, follow Route 102. After passing through Somesville, take a right at the fire station continuing to follow Route 102. (Be sure to turn right. Route 102 also continues straight through Somesville). Next, you'll turn right on to Seal Cove Road. Look for the launching ramp on your left. Parking is available along
Paddling Information: Seal Cove is a very nice place to launch. You could use the ramp, but it is probably easier to use the beach next to the ramp if the tide permits. In most tides you can also walk through the bushes to a beach area just beyond the grassy knoll which is next to the ramp. In high tide, there is a wonderful paddle off to your left. It's a river like area which heads toward Seal Cove Pond. The trip only takes a few minutes, but it's scenic. It's a nice way to end a trip if you've been paddling some rough water. It's pretty protected and thus usually very calm. Most paddlers head out of the cove and paddle north. After leaving the cove heading north, Moose Island will appear in front of you. In low tide, there is a bar which connects Moose Island to a cottage which you'll see on a point to your right. If it's rough, you can paddle toward the bar and carry over it. If it's calm, paddling around Moose Island is well worth the extra distance.
