Ipperwash Sunset

The sun completes it's descent into the water
Awed watchers depart to go on to their night
They will not witness the true experience
For the beauty is in the afterglow
The water and I know

Reflected on the ripples, rising from the horizon
Hued rays of amber, rose and mauve radiate
Reflecting on sky and wisps of cloud
Earlier hidden by the bright sun
As the water and I know

Subtly, thrusts of light flowing upward stretch
And quiver with the heartbeat of the waves
Unselfishly the sun removed it's light
Allowing its true beauty to shine
Truly the water and I know

I slip naked into the glow touched waves
Revel in the embrasure of it's open arms
Cool waves wash over me and
Drift away with dreams of truth
That only the water knows

Surfacing, I stretch on a rock, still sun warm
Experience in my core the earth's rhythm
Pulsating from it's molten center
To the center of the very life
That only I know

I kiss the earth, say thanks and get dressed
And join the others who were not so blessed
To patiently wait for and know the best
That this world has to offer
Only the water and I know
